I apologize for the terrible stream today. The streaming software, OBS Studio, wiped my settings 5 minutes before we were to go live.
[After THE JUMP: the player and what we said]
--------------------------------------------
1. Northwestern Defense w Alex Drain
Very bad at linebacker.
2. Northwestern Offense w Alex Drain
Third quarterback's the charm, but all their interior OL are sub-300 and they run power.
3. George Jewett, w Craig Ross
The first Black player for both teams, and also a brilliant doctor.
4. Seth’s Hockey Podcast
Didn’t realize how good.
MUSIC:
Tonight’s featured musician is Dani Darling of Ann Arbor, who released her new album The Future this year and played the Pig a few weeks back. My selections:
And because Sony bought Across 110th Street and slapped a claim on us, the opener and outro:
- “The Employee is Not Afraid”—Bear vs. Shark
- “Ruska Vodka”—Motorboat
If you or a friend made some good tunes and don't have a label out scrubbing for them we'd be happy to feature you.
THE USUAL LINKS:
- Helpful iTunes subscribe link
- General podcast feed link
- Direct download link
- What's with the theme music?
I'm sure that they won't run a zone read that's live, except with McCarthy.

Had no idea that's what it's from.

One of the finest songs ever composed.

Absolutely no mention on Wikipedia of this song's use as part of the MGoBlog streaming empire.
Shame.
EDIT: For a quick primer on the history of 'Michigan Replay' (and Across 110th Street's selection as the show's theme music) here's an Athleitic article from last year:

Hey, guys. Can't hear Alex. Only watching you listening.
October 22nd, 2021 at 5:31 PM ^
When you 3 are listening to Alex, and I (we?) can't hear him, the long silences punctuated by a spurt of laughter makes it look like an Andy Kaufman routine.
October 22nd, 2021 at 5:32 PM ^
Whatever Alex is saying is apparently hilarious to judge from everyone's laughter. Wish I could hear it.
<please don't rip on our sponsors when it's not their fault>
October 22nd, 2021 at 5:46 PM ^
OBS Studio was at fault.
October 22nd, 2021 at 5:55 PM ^

October 22nd, 2021 at 7:26 PM ^
OBS Studio is wondering where that cyan circle came from.
October 22nd, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
Still can’t hear alex
October 22nd, 2021 at 5:35 PM ^
and my question is:
Why didn't MGoBlog buy Across 110th Street instead of Sony?
the Michigan Money Canon (via an MGo fundraiser) would have made this a piece of cake.
October 23rd, 2021 at 7:23 AM ^
Doesn't work that way. They made a false claim based on a different version that they own via a subsidiary that they bought. They didn't actually listen to it or consider if it's fair use. YouTube lets them upload the music they claim to own, and then runs a search algorithm on new videos automatically against their library. So from Sony's point of view our video pops up and they are asked if they want to make a claim, and they always say yes because nothing happens to them but they can now slap a million ads on our show and get paid for it.
We are allowed to contest this but it's a long process because YouTube automatically assumes Sony is making a fair claim, and Sony knows this so they have it automated on their end to just say yes to every automated claim, and no to every challenge, and then if I want to keep going I have to threaten legal and fill out this large form about where the bit comes from and how it was used, and then wait the maximum 7 weeks for Sony to have some underling decide fighting me isn't worth it for something they don't actually own. Not exactly not something I can do in the middle of a live stream. And if it's contested the stream comes down.
It's a horrible practice that is pushing creators away from YouTube. The people who claim little bits of football games are worse. That's why I found gfycat. Fuck YouTube.

I’ve been working from home since March 2020 due to Covid. There have been countless stupid technology crashes/failures. Seemingly endless restarts.

All good Seth. Not complaining just trying to help. Brian has a nice house.
October 22nd, 2021 at 5:44 PM ^
