Devin Bush Sr Hired As Defensive Analyst Comment Count

0004 Flanagan vs Osceola 12

This was a bit of a worst-kept secret but it is now official:

Per a source, Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan coach Devin Bush Sr. has been hired as a Defensive Analyst for the Michigan football staff.

Bush built Flanagan from not much into a state champ in Florida's largest division; he was a star at FSU and a first round pick before an eight-year NFL career as a safety. He is likely to slot into the role that Chris Partridge vacated after his promotion.

Notably this is not the defensive backs job recently vacated by Greg Jackson. Sam Webb has heard that former Wisconsin S and Michigan grad assistant Aubrey Pleasant, now a QC coach with the Redskins, might be in line for that job.

Michigan still has an analyst spot open after Erik Campbell got a position coach job at UConn.

I do like bringing in successful high school coaches for a number of reasons. In this case, he has naqme recognition and although he can't coach, as you pointed out, he can certainly advise the coaches when he sees something that needs to be corrected at the position in which he earned a lot of money. Regardless of the experience of our new db coach, different coaches pick up on different things and although he cannot speak directly to the players, rest assured he will pass on that knowledge, as well as the sublte differences he found effective while he was playing the position.

And all these high school coaches have either run or faced multiple spread offenses. They all have opinions on how to defend it, and it will be up to Coach Brown to decide that which he wishes to try and that which he tosses out.

about Devin Bush Sr. but from the response, this seems to be a good move for the program. May he excel Michigan's football team in ways we could not have imagined and love the University of Michigan.

Welcome to the family Mr. Bush!  Go Blue!

The coaching pipeline is as important to this program as the recruiting. The way coaches careers seem to skyrocket after working for Harbaugh for a couple years will keep us in need of a constant flow of new talented and ambitious people to fill the void. I am a huge fan of Harbaughs coaching clinics for this reason.

I went last year (it was awesome), and seemed like most of the coaches were from Michigan obviously.  I wouldn't be surprised to see coaches from all over flock in future years.  FWIW it was completely sold out last year and will be this year too, so it will be first come first served.  But hiring these coaches like this and seeing them get a jump in coaching careers can only help bring in serious coaching talent to these clinics.  And good coaches also happen to have good players, so that would help recruiting.  And the cycle builds upon itself..

I like this hire. Seems like there are a bunch more Florida kids looking at Michigan seriously. Mr. Bush will certainly help continue establishing pipelines in the Deep South.

Or, Devin Bush senior is a very talented coach, who wants to pursue a college coaching career, interviewed for and was offered a job based on his talent and experience. Just like it is a great opportunity for those kids to take a trip to Florida over spring break, it will also be a great experience for Devin Bush senior.
