Well, if Cali boys stay in Cali, why did Tate go to Michigan?
He's a talented (though very immature) kid. He could start for many or most D1 programs, including a few Pac 10 or Mountain West teams. He's competitive, and clearly has a (too) high opinion of himself. Status clearly matters a lot to Tate. So I don't see him choosing to go somewhere like Montana or GVSU.
If he does, it's probably because his off-field issues (academic, social) rendered him off-limits to D1 programs -- even the sketchier ones.

He should go to SDSU, Fresno State, San Jose State, Arizona State. Something closer to home and that will not destroy him academically (although it was mostly his fault that he failed).

No idea where Tate will end up, but I heard Todd Marinovich has signed on with the Forcier family as an "adviser".

Tate needs to take a year off, focus on academics, and go through the recruiting process again. The year off would allow him to get his academics in order and make him much more marketable to a D1 school. Who knows, he could even come back to U-M.

Tate needs to worry about grades at this point. Wherever he ends up, I just hope he can get the degree, and if it means that he really was a flash in the pan, then well, it was nice while it lasted. We shall always have the highlight reel!
