MAACO Las Vegas Bowl BSU vs. Utah Open Thread
First game I'll probably be able to watch all the way through since Saturday. Though if the spread is to be believed, it may be boring before 9 O'Clock. But maybe Utah, the winner of 9 straight bowl games, has a surprise in store for the Broncos, who might be the team disappointed in their bowl reward, rather than the upstart trying to prove everyone wrong. Cause if not, and the game crashes and burns, might have to turn this into a Top Chef Open Thread by 10.
Edit: Seeing the bowl name in a subject line, this has to be the worst sounding bowl we've had to endure since at least, uh...the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl...well...last night. Nevermind. (Anyone ever actually eat at a BOB?)

I feel like I've seen this game before somewhere. It kind of sucks with bowl tie ins how it is BCS or bust for the MWC Teams. A game against either of these teams might have gotten me down to Jackonsville for New Years.

BSU by 17.
December 22nd, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
Giving the points?
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:05 PM ^
you're giving 17, you say...
December 22nd, 2010 at 7:51 PM ^
I swear to god Boise better win. I have 34 confidence points riding on this. If I lose this one, I am cooked in the pool.
December 22nd, 2010 at 7:55 PM ^
Go Utes!
December 22nd, 2010 at 7:56 PM ^
There is a Beef O'Brady's in Shelby. It's just a generic chain. Very close to a Montana's or a Buffalo Wild Wing's + steaks.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
Some of those regional chains are good greasy BBQ cooking (like Sonny's), or some sort. Others are generic chains. You're making it sound like the latter.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:07 PM ^
It's a step below Damon's (if you've ever eaten there) in terms of BBQ. It's generic but decent quality. If you're travelling and can't find a local place that doesn't look sketchy it's a good fall back option. Not some place I'd seek out though.

College Football, and Tweeting don't mix.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:10 PM ^
Fumble Boise!
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:11 PM ^
This announcing crew is going to make me kill myself by 10 pm.
"Peterson wants to strike early and often." As opposed to the coaches that hate scoring?
Ugh Musberger.....
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:12 PM ^
To win you have to score points... since when?
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:13 PM ^
I couldnt bring myself to pick a side in this one. I like both teams a lot.
Boise never loses to the spread more than twice in row--they've lost 2 in a row coming--while Utah just never loses bowl games
This should be fun. I'd take the points with Utah almost every time, but one of my rules is to never bet against Boise.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:14 PM ^
When the Utes came to came to town all their fans were classy folk. So I'm routing for them all the way.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:18 PM ^
seemed too go to pass up.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:14 PM ^
I wonder if this kid will get an ESPN piece with Tom Rinaldi.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:20 PM ^
Does Musberger think before he talks? "The two players just went mouth to mouth."
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:22 PM ^
You really could have stopped there. Also, no.
Edit:
I love how Herbie just spent thirty seconds explaining the difference in formations and the best Musberger could do was mumble "2 and 6".
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:28 PM ^
Now I find myself paying attention to the game and for Musbergerisms.
Glad he let us know the pie eating contest was a draw. I was going to lose sleep if somebody didn't fill me in.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:32 PM ^
"He's not afraid to move it over to the right side."
Because so many QBs live in terror of that side of the field and refuse to cross that hash.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:34 PM ^
As he throws at the receiver's feet, rolling to the right.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:24 PM ^
Cain had no idea the Boise kid was coming.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:31 PM ^
The Ute fan holding the "Wide Right" sign is amusing right now. Some Boise fan needs to stand next to him with a "Shank" sign.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:33 PM ^
shake and bake!
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:39 PM ^
Epic dropped pass. FAIL.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:39 PM ^
At this point of the QB was filmed beating his WRs with a sock full of dimes I wouldn't really blame him. Drop city for the Utes.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:44 PM ^
Quick, switch the Utah LBs in for the receiving corps. I seriously hope this is just Utah being hyped up and they return to their blown out by TCU ways soon. It is starting to scare me a little.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:51 PM ^
What a let down so far. I expected to see decent football. Not "Who can have the most impressive screwup?".
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:55 PM ^
If you would have told me Utah 3-0 at the end of one with three turnovers (two from Boise) and dropped passes galore, I would have told you to put down the hookah.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:56 PM ^
Is there a decent hookah place in AA ever since Oz closed? That one place on South U has them, but not a liquor license to go with it IIRC.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:00 PM ^
Haven't been there in about two years. There is however one where I live now. Well actually it is an upscale Italian restaurant and a Turkish guy comes around with hookahs. Tobacco only though...
As I am writing this Boise fumbles again. For fucks sake!!!!!! They must have hit off their team hookah not filled with tobacco! This is getting a bit rediculous.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:02 PM ^
I have a massage riding on the Utes, so I encourage Boise to smoke another hookah at half.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:06 PM ^
Damn. I have 34 confidence points on Boise for the mgoblog pool. I can def empathize with your situation though.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:09 PM ^
Though does it matter? That kinda sounds win-win to me.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:15 PM ^
Losing means I clean her ears. This is apparently a way of couples bonding in Asian culture or something. I have to use these bamboo shoots that have been carved into the shape of toothpicks. Something about Asians having drier ear wax than white folk.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
See how much she can make the white boy believe. ;-) Never heard of that...but then, my wife probably wouldn't want me sharp objects in my hand after losing a bet. (I was going to say "wouldn't want me poking her with sharp objects after...", but well...). But taking her at her word, I guess you do have something riding on the game. I keep trying to think of a way that might be kinky...but no, can't think of a way that sounds like fun.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:33 PM ^
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ear_pick#Culture
Wikipedia confirms her story. She does lay her head in my lap for the process so I have that going for me.
During halftime check out the Japanese super duper ear pick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-PlBo-zjcU
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:36 PM ^
Ever hear or use an ear candle? I have always been curious on the feeling of those.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:39 PM ^
Asian ear wax removal is more on the high tech side of things. We have one of those ear picks that plugs into the TV and outputs in HD. So you can sit in front of a 42" TV and clean your ear out in 720p goodness.
I have a hard time believing that a candle could generate enough suction to pull out ear wax though.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:43 PM ^
NOW I can see the kinky value to it...
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:45 PM ^
Something to do with the heat creating suction for that deep hard to reach wax.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:41 PM ^
I'll believe wiki. Though Japanese YouTube...is there anything they won't do?
Well, if you lose (and it's not looking so great right now), make sure she rolls over from ear to ear a lot.
December 22nd, 2010 at 8:59 PM ^
It all depends what you had in the hookah. Also this Utah defense is impressive. Utah just recovered another fumble.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:06 PM ^
And only 3 points, somethings wrong.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:07 PM ^
Any predictions for Utah in the Pac-12?
EDIT: I forget. Are they in the Bros or Brahs Division?
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:10 PM ^
To see who deserves to get in more.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:12 PM ^
Highlight: Corey Joseph of Pickering, Ontario puts the dagger in Michigan State for Texas [at Michigan State].
In other news: Brent Musburger can fcuk off when discussing Canadians. Stupid jackass get oot of my tv.
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:12 PM ^
Again, Musberger. He told us about the pie eating contest earlier. Now he blessed us with the knowledge of the Outback Buffet Bowl as well.
As writing this...TOUCHDOWN BOISE!!!! Sorry CRex....
