W Soccer beats Washington in Michigan Athletics season opener
It was a beautiful night tonight at U-M Soccer Stadium.
Michigan Women's Soccer opened their 2017 season and the 2017-18 Michigan Athletics calendar with a game against Washington.
The Wolverines struck quickly, going up 1-0 just 7 minutes in on a goal by freshman Sarah Stratigakis in her first career game.
Michigan would double the lead to 2-0 when the returning Taylor Timko netted her first goal since 2015 after missing last season with injury.
Despite getting outshot by Washington 22-7, Michigan cashed in on its shots and had great goalkeeping by Megan Hinz and Sarah Jackson who each played a half.
Michigan held on for the 2-0 win.
Michigan is now 1-0-0 on the season and will face Idaho State on Sunday at 2pm.
