Michigan Commit Throws No-Hitter
Michigan commit Alex Lakatos of Forest Hills Central (same as Derek Dennis) threw a no-hitter yesterday in addition to striking out 19.

...no hitter w/ 19 K's is crazy good. Quite an accomplishment.
I could do that with one hand tied behind my back...

That'd leave you with no hands though. 99.9% sure you'd need at least one hand. If not every pitch is illegal.
It is a good accomplishment, but hard to get excited about young kids these days. My friend when we played in HS struck out 20 in a game against mona shores, got his scholly from Michigan and never saw the field cause he tore his rotator cuff.
In hs, don't they now have a limit for pitches per game these days? If i recall that was a new rule within the past few years i thought.

I played high school ball recently. Im pretty sure the rules are innings a week, with added things like if you pitch a complete game you must wait. Im am not entirely sure though.
should be keeping a pitch count. Unfortunately, the MHSAA rule does pertain to innnings pitch. Every youth baseball has rules that limit innings pitched. I always limited my youth team (7th & 8th graders) to a max of 60, but they seldom got that high because I didn't want to have to pull a pitcher in the middle of an inning based on his pitch count.
I'm know that NFHS rules don't limit innings pitched in high school, but Michigan's MHSAA might have different state rules.
Here in Texas, as well as most other states that I know about, a kid in high school could theoretically pitch every inning for a team. It doesn't normally happen, but it's legal.
A lot of programs have pitch count limits on the underclassmen, but varsity tends to let those pitch counts creep a bit. I think a lot of coaches would agree that solid caps on pitching counts aren't right as different kids are in different situations. Limiting them all to 60 pitches is probably over kill when you get some of these kids that are 18.

That is really impressive; hopefully he does nearly as well at UM.

I don't know much about the baseball in Forest Hills or Grand Haven for that matter.

They tend to face decent competition, and their team has been stacked with prospects the last few seasons. They have a couple other players at D3 and some minor D1 schools. No idea about the specific competition in that game though.

Grand Haven plays in the OK Red still i believe. Since i graduated back in 02-03 it has changed dramatically. But when i played and we won a D1 state title at WO, 3 of the teams in our conference were ranked in the top 10 for pretty much the whole year. Grand Haven has never really had much for talent, neither has FHC till recently. Played them way back when and they had some decent kids. I don't think talent is as rich as it use to, but there are still some stars here and there. With great summer programs in the Grand Rapids area that most of us played on.

But how does it help the football team? :P
