Sporting News Season Preview: Michigan at #9. Slotted for Cotton Bowl.

Submitted by othernel on

It's that time of year for the full season previews to come out.

Sporting News just released theirs. I searched and did not see it posted already. Since a lot of the links are slideshows, I've tried to link directly to the relevant items.

Full Preview can be found HERE.

Other less important rankings is they have UM vs Minnesota as the #9 trap game... and have the Florida game at Jerryworld ranked as #2 game of the opening week... and finally, have Harbaugh at #5 coach in the game

If we finish 3rd for a 3rd straight year I'd consider that to be a failure of sorts. There is no damn way penn state should be better than us or winning the big ten before us.

I think the beginning of the year is most important. If we can get through non conference unbeaten, I think we can challenge for the big ten title. The talented youth on this team is going to get better each and every week.

I worry about RT, the secondary, and depth at key positions. I worry that a 3rd straight year without getting to the big ten title game may result in a lessening in our recruiting impact. People see Harbaugh as an elite coach. People expect results, so I am very hopeful that this is the year we take the next step. Gotta beat osu!!

Given the roster turnover I am not sure a B1G championship is in the cards, but with the talent level we have we should be able to compete with anybody at the end of the year. The two major goals need to be beating OSU and winning a road game against top 15 team in a difficult venue. (Wisc or PSU) for the first time since like '06. (shudders)

Coach Harbaugh gets to quote Bo this November. "The objective, to beat Ohio State, we accomplished!" We definitely have enough talent if the team comes together like it could. Go blue!

But I think it will be a tough game. Even if we lose it better be close unlike the 2015 game. I will not judge Harbaugh as coach until 2019. If we do not beat OSU in 2018 or  2019 and cannot win the B1G, then I will begin to doubt that Harbaugh will win a championship for us but would still want him to be our coach over anyone else out there. I  have the feeling Urbz will retire after his next national championship or a couple years losing to Harbaugh, which ever comes first. I'm hoping for the latter.

We've never played there. It's the only major bowl left we haven't won yet (not counting Peach Bowl cause it's stupid and only just recently earned elite status)
