BIG 10 Arrests and Ejections at Stadiums

Submitted by Sharuck on

Here is a link to an article on stadium arrests and ejections from Eleven Warriors, based of FOI act requests that it sent to BIG schools.  You will not be surprised that MSU has by far the highest arrest-per-attendee ratio.

Here is the text about Michigan:

MICHIGAN
Michigan's number of home games, attendance totals and number of ejections (236) were the highest among Big Ten schools that provided such data. Nebraska reported 238 incidents, though not every one resulted in an ejection.

Most of the arrests came as a result of a minor in possession of alcohol, drugs or resisting and obstructing police business. One intriguing statistic: five arrests for pocket picking during Michigan's 14-7 victory over Wisconsin on Oct. 1. Forty-one patrons were kicked out after being found to be in possession of someone else's identification during that game, by far the greatest total for that ejection reason.

Other reported reasons for ejections: alcohol in the stadium, disorderly conduct, possessing a fake identification, violating stadium rules, throwing something, passing back identification to someone else trying to get into the game, possessing fake tickets, urinating in public and for not having the proper credentials to be on the field.

I'm still not sure why the AD needed to create the student verification system. Sell the tickets at student rates and be done with it. If the students want to re-sell, let them resell. It makes it much easier to get their friends from other schools into the games, etc. But I seem to be in the minority on this issue. So carry on.

Interesting Iowa fan's story:

A 35-year-old woman was approached by police after appearing intoxicated. She spoke in incoherent sentences and slurred speech and told officers she thought she was in Ames, Iowa, at the Iowa State-Arizona football game. She had a .225 BAC. The last time those two teams played in Ames (or ever) happened in 1968;

I had a hand in probably 3 or 4 of these ejections last year.   If it's 15 minutes or less before kickoff and you show upwith fake ID I automatically turn you over to a state cop or AAPD or a campus cop who are standing right behind me. If it's earliar I'll tell you to go over and get it validated or try again with a better ID. You're better off just saying you lost it or forgot it, then I'll give you these questions two---- What was your freshman dorm?  What is your hardest class right now. If you come back with 2nd floor Tyler East Quad and Math215 you're in otherwise go get your ticket validated.

I got kicked out a few times in college for handing ID back to others. Thankfully tickets were cheap to scalp since the team sucked back then.

@Iowa 2016. We played the cowbell loud and proud in the M section in the end zone. The team was winning. A power tripping turd of an usher then made it his goal to find the cowbell (he did not) and have us ejected by the cops (again he did not succeed). Michigan fans stood by us in dignified silence when being grilled about cowbell location. I blame the turd usher for the team's second half debacle. Almost wish we would've been booted instead of watching that.
