Nantz/Hill/Raftery crew in Indy
Per CBS website. Called the BTT and now follow Michigan to Indy. I like the continuity here. Not typically a huge Nantz guy but sometimes in the NCAA tourney CBS will send out like interns to call your region if they run out of actual announcers. This is a pretty good draw.
No link because..... there is really nothing else to read.
Apologies if 1) this has already been posted, or, 2) "dude, they are just announcers!?! Nobody cares! Get a life and stop looking at the CBS website to see who is calling the game, loser!"
They're in . . . mantoman!
He's an old-school guy and reminds me of when I learned to love the game watching it on TV as a kid. Him and Al McGuire were my favorites. To me Raftery is the voice of college basketball.
I don't like Nantz. He somehow comes off as condescending and ignorant at the same time. I do like Raftery though, and Hill was surprisingly good at the BTT. So two out of three, OK.
Nantz always sounds like he's on some major dosage of tranquilizers. He shows no emotion, is always flat in his approach. Listening to him is like watching paint dry.
Love Raftery. When you hear his voice, you know it's March Madness time.
should call all M games...best in the industry today.
And I think Nantz is underrated. His call from the BTT title game when Michigan stole the ball late in the game that led to the Walton layup is really good. Also, Grant Hill is MUCH improved from where he was a couple of years ago. Glad to have this crew.
I just went through all eight announcing teams and they are like all the same boring dude. Literally none of the play by play guys are interesting except Uncle Verne. Kevin Harlan is probably the best of the bunch. Among color guys, Raftery is the best by far, I personally like Len Elmore, Webber is good, Hill is fine, and after that it's like the same useless former coach you've heard a billion times before. Endless Steve Lavins. Or Reggie Miller, who is terrible.
Even what, four years ago we had Marv Albert and Steve Kerr which was fun. I know Kerr's busy now, but still.
As a though experiment, here's ESPN's tournament broacasts:
David Flemming/Dan Dakich (Midwest Region, 1st/2nd round games) - Fleming's totally fine and has a nice chemistry with Dakich who I enjoy
Karl Ravech/Jim Calhoun - Ravech is good, Calhoun not terrible for a first year guy, but not super insightful
Sean McDonough/ Doris Burke (East Region, 1st/2nd round games) - Both are great
Dan Shulman/Jay Bilas (Final Four, South Regon, 1st/2nd round games) - Shulman's fantastic, Bilas a solid to good analyst when not blinded by homerism towards his buddies. Tendency to be mad at officials.
Dave Pasch/Bill Walton (West Region, 1st/2nd round games) - They hate each other and it's amazing. I mean, they can't call the game for shit, but it's hilarious.
Joe Tessitore/Dick Vitale - Hate Vitale, but he's our only real weak link so far
Bob WIschusen/Fran Frischilla - Perfectly average, did a fine job with the Big 12 tournament
Dave O'Brien/Len Elmore - Elmore's good, O'Brien fine.
So much better.
Whoa, I just discovered Marv Albert is 75. I don't know if it's the toupee but he seems younger than that.
OTOH, I assumed Jim Nantz was older than he is (57), given that he's been calling the tournament forever.

But I wasn't sure, because he was so amazingly inarticulate that I had to turn on the closed captioning. Turns out he was saying:
"Mmmunughummnmm Ray Allen mammunumum! Mgghhrmmunughummum Kemba Walker mmumuummmunummmummum. Mmmunummmunummunmummum."
Andrew and Duncan both seemed to be big fans of Raftery and Hill on their podcast. Good news I suppose.
I don't mind this crew at all. They are old school!
"Move those puppies!"
I enjoyed this crew calling the game on Sunday. However, I have to admit, I don't have the conniptions many have about particular announcing teams. There are many fans who are extremely passionate about or against particular announcers, etc. Since I don't have cable, and therefore don't watch all the ESPN content, I don't didn't to get riled up by some of the lunacy. As we come to the end of the season, hopefully not until April 3, I would love to hear just a little bit more from Dakich. I remember hearing Bob Griese calling games at the end of the season when his son was at QB, and it was touching. Of course, he tried to stay professional at all times, but you could tell he had just a little bit more vested in the games.
Don't have enough points to start my own thread as this is actually my first time ever posting. Wanted to give heads up to Michigan fans that you can find tickets currently on ticketmaster for cheaper than on Stubhub!
seems like someone that would be a prick outside of announcing, but I still generally enjoy him as an announcer and I think he has pretty good sports knowledge in general.
Might have heard the Rafteryism one too many times.

I'll take Raftery's catch phrases anytime over anything Vitale has to mumble. Listening to him makes me want to commit suicide. Fortunately, other things in my life make me want to keep living.
On the Dak and Dunc podcast even the players mentioned they were excited to have Raf call their game. That's the big time.
