But losing all those TV screens...
makes Jim Delany a sad Delany.

Winning comment of the week!
They have done nothing for the Big Ten. Except let us steal NJ recruits.
I would state that the Big Ten is more a rival with Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Notre Dame and Bowling Green.
Never been to Nebraska - never will. NOT Midwest. Go play football with the other cow-poke states.
October 6th, 2016 at 8:26 AM ^
Nebraska is NOT Midwest??? Have you ever looked at a map?
October 6th, 2016 at 8:54 AM ^
High plains no matter what cartographer pu that together.
October 6th, 2016 at 9:17 AM ^
I'm trying to find Rutgers and Maryland on that map. Can you help?
October 6th, 2016 at 9:38 AM ^
...next to Pennsylvania
October 6th, 2016 at 10:16 AM ^
Technically that is the "midwest". But in reality there are two regions. The Great Lakes region and the Great Plains region.
The Great Lakes are roughly the territory outlined in the Northwest Ordinance. Generally speaking the great plains were acquired in the Louisiana Purchase.

I know it is hard for Michiganders to understand, we all grew up as midwesterners, but look at the map. Great Lakes region is a good name. North centeral would work too. Rust belt would work too. But Nebraska IS in the middle west part of the US.

I thought you were going to go with the classic Henny Youngman joke.
"There are a lot of great schools in the Big 10 conference. Take Penn State, for example. Please, take 'em."

but knowing me.. i would screw it up and get negged all to hell

I felt this until I moved to DC last year.
Now, I get to see UM at Maryland or Rutgers every year, and easy to get BTN. I understand the regional footprint and it's importance better now than I did before. Could we have chosen better partners than Rutgers???? Oh god, yes. Maryland isn't half bad for the big ten. But either way, I'm one to say that now that I live out this way, I'm very glad the big ten is in this area.

As far as the current states of Maryland & Rutgers, I dislike the union. I would have sought a few other schools first, if looking to add schools.
However I live in NYC. I'm going to my first away game as a Michigan fan. It's also gonna be my birthday, so what better way to spend it than by watching an October Michigan football game. This will be my second game of the year, as I was home for the victory over UCF. Bring the game to Yankme Stadium or out in Queens & I'm even better (NJ Transit's gonna cost me $30!)
Can we somehow work getting rid of Delany & get Hackett a job I think he would be brilliant in?

I truly enjoy kicking the shit out of them. It really is a terrific feeling.

The last thing he said to me, "Doc," he said, "some time when the crew is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to get out there and give it all they got and win just one for the Zipper. I don't know where I'll be then, Doc," he said, "but I won't smell too good, that's for sure."

Sounds like New Jersey.

Yeah, what'd they think? That Lincoln, Nebraska would be a sexy destination? Doesn't help that they're not exactly taking the West Division by storm.

Hey Nebraska, your brand has not grown, well because you know, um you have SUCKED!

Well done... I was gonna write essentially the same thing... that they are far better off in the Big12 because the Texas area recruits they used to get, and they'd be the team in the north for them.... in the Big Ten they are at a huge disadvantage.
October 6th, 2016 at 4:28 AM ^
If you like corn, we already have that school.
October 6th, 2016 at 5:56 AM ^
October 6th, 2016 at 5:58 AM ^
Has the state moved? Because they joined a diff league they cant recruit Texas anymore?
I just dont get that argument
October 6th, 2016 at 6:39 AM ^
The issue is that they aren't playing games in the state of Texas anymore, and the BTN might not be on TV there either (is it?).
October 6th, 2016 at 9:00 AM ^
Yes, look at what playing in the NJ / NYC / DC-MD-VA area every single year has done for our recruiting in those areas. It helps a lot.
If you can't be in a talent-rich area, it helps to at least play in a talent rich area consistently every year.
Nebraska is out of sight out of mind in Texas now. All those guys that would have gone to Nebraska are now going to TCU and Texas Tech and Houston.
Meanwhile, Nebraska is now playing consistently only in the upper midwest. Not exactly a talent hot bed.
Of course, they should have thought about this when they left the Big 12.
