OT: who would you pick for your uofm rugby sevens dream team?

Submitted by taistreetsmyhero on

Been really enjoying the rugby sevens in the olympics. I'm just imagining denard out there and how absurdly good he would be at it.

I don't know that much about crafting the perfect team, but it seems you need a good balance of speed and size. So, (based on potential) who would you put on your uofm rugby sevens team?

All Time (off the top of my head)

1. Peppers

2. Denard

3. Charles Woodson

4. Houma

5. Jeremy Gallon

6. LaMarr Woodley

7. Tyrone Wheatley

Current Roster (looking at the roster)

1. Peppers

2.  Deveon Smith

3. Jourdan Lewis

4. Taco

5. Drake Johnson

6.  Chesson

7. Poggi

I have no idea what it takes to play rugby. I tried to pick physical/fast players who have decent conditioning.

Call me crazy (because I have played rugby on the collegiate level), but I would choose actual rugby players for my rugby team.

Jonny Wilkinson

Jonah Lomu

Dan Carter

Sergio Perrise

Richie McCaw

Bryan Habana

David Pocock

I played a far bit of rugby in my day including in Australia, so I'm glad this is even becoming a topic in the US as it's great to see the growth of the sport.

That being said you need guys who can run and tackle so I'd rule almost all receivers out because of the importance of solid D. Also because its a live ball you need people who have good hands.

My top 7

Backs (faster guys on the outside)

Denard (scrumhalf), Harmon (flyhalf) Peppers (center) Woodson (wing)-  I really debated Ty Law vs Peppers

Pack  (bigger guys responsible for scrums/lineouts etc)

Tyrone Wheatley, Houma, Brandon Graham
