If they couldn't win one with this group I don't think she'll get another one. Hope like hell I'm wrong. But these teams we are facing in the CWS are signing elite prospects year after year. Michigan isn't signing enough of them in comparison. Hell they couldn't even get Romero's little sister.

Dude, its not like schools choose who they sign and the student has to sign.  Michigan recruited Sydney but she decided to build her own legacy at Oklahoma and not follow in Romo's footsteps and possibly be in her shadow her whole career.  That is perfectly fine and to be honeset I don't blame her.

I really feel like last year had to have been our year/was a bigger disappointment. Even though this team was higher ranked (by a margin of only 1), last year's team just had a fire/mental spark that has been missing on this one. Also, not having a top tier back up pitcher (Wagner > Driesenga) has hurt.

Great season for Michigan! I think we all need to remember that it's a game, if it were played on a paper we wouldn't care. The variables are what make sports exciting.

Didn't win the big ten championship.

The World Series was there for the taking and failed there as well.

There is no need to pat our own backs and say things are great.  It's not.  One of the best offenses in college softball and they didn't even get anyone to third base today. . .

Our offense is overrated because we play in the B1G. Put us in the SEC and we aren't scoring what we were this year.

But I agree with your larger point. This was there for the taking and we choked. Why people feel the need to sugar coat it I have no idea.

When you get to the WCWS rankings don't mean jack shit and Hutch preaches that to her team.  Hell, rankings don't matter when you are in regionals or super regionals.  If you play your best softball in the WCWS than you have a shot to win the national title and if you don't than you go home early.  There are no favroites so to say that Michigan "choked" as the favorite is just stupid.  They unfortunately didn't play well last night and didn't hit today.  When the margin of error is so small these things can't happen if you want to win the national title.

you won the semantics argument.

All I know is this team with the potential to win the national championship lost their conference tournament.

they showed up to the world series and walked away with nothing.

spin it however you want.  It doesn't even bother me that you mention stupidity.

this team underachieved.  Pure and simple.

What makes you think I don't think this team underachieved? I do.

But that doesn't make what you said any less wrong.

Michigan Softball has won 9 straight Big Ten Championships. That is the longest streak of any school, from any sport, men's or women's, in the Big Ten. So don't diminish their achievements by saying they didn't win the championship because you're too stupid to understand the rationale behind conference championships.

thought that meant we had so much more to look forward to.

We ran into a hot pitcher, for sure, but it's so hard to believe this is done.

I have been thinking about last year's WCWS finals for a full year, and while I feared OU, I still thought this team was going to get it done, one way or the other.

It hurts bad enough as a fan, and coming from someone who lost a NC in the last seconds in my college career, I feel for them as this pain, and regret, and second-guessing will last a lifetime for them. I unfortunately know it very well.

Trying to believe that all our recent shortcomings on the national stage is karma that will come back around our way when Harbaugh wins a national championship. Even the MSU ending debacle.

I have a theory about the MSU play: it was a trick play. Watching it again, you see that the two gunners turn around appearing to look for a pass right where the first down mark is. They turn around before the play goes to hell. Remember, a timeout was called before this, when Harbaugh saw that MSU was rushing 10/11. I believe that he told Blake that, if MSU again loaded their line, to roll out and throw a pass to get the first down (or score).

While taking the glass-half-empty approach might make fans of the University of Michigan’s  sports programs believe that the sky is falling, a more optimistic view might be one in which some solace can be taken from the general accomplishments of the university’s athletes in many sports, even though national championships have been hard to come by in recent years.

The Learfield Directors’ Cup points standings measure the relative successes of intercollegiate athletics programs. In the final winter season standings, Michigan ranked third behind perennial champion Stanford and Michigan’s arch-nemesis, Ohio State. Considering that four of the top five and six of the top 15 schools in the standings are from the Big Ten, Michigan’s place in the standings is very impressive.

It may be true that the men’s and women’s basketball and lacrosse programs, as well as the hockey and baseball programs may need major talent upgrades, if new Athletic Director Warde Manuel wants to see Michigan overtake Ohio State and challenge Stanford for the lead in the Learfield Directors’ Cup points standings. But this should be a time to celebrate the Michigan athletes’ accomplishments, instead of dwelling on the negatives.
