"With Hope at Purdue, though, you have a guy who has gone out of his way to blast UM and "embarrass" them at every turn."
By "at every turn" do you mean that one time after the Purdue game?

And he complained along with Tiller about the Roundtree incident.
And he mouthed off a bit after the game, as well as the season before when his guy was suspended. Hope has made it known that he dislikes RR and UM. I'm not saying there is an immense history of attacks, but both coaches are relatively new at their respective posts.

but it reads:
"Stephen Hopkins got an email from a rival Big Ten coach" .
Now I know it DOESN'T say "one of Michigan's TRADITIONAL rivals in the Big Ten".
but why are they bothering to use the word rival?
Is it just the reporter's choice of words?
Would the quote make as much sense if it were Northwestern?
If aa.com just meant "another Big Ten school" why didn't they say that?
Yeah, I'm reading too much into it.
I don't consider it negative at all considering what could have been said,
but Dantonio still gets my vote.

I think you're reading too much into it.

list of examples against Michigan. I think it's easy to imagine the following tactics on the recruiting trail against Rodriguez and staff when speaking with recruits:
1.) "You do want to win championships AND play in bowl games, don't you?...."
2.) "Yeah, early playing time is great, it's just a shame when NCAA investigations and penalties get in the way of your future career. I mean, you don't need that...."
3.) "Things really aren't going according to plan up there. it will be interesting to see how it all plays out...."
4.) "Well all I'm saying is it's just troubling to hear all of this from their own fans and then from former players....."
5.) "We've beaten those guys two years in a row!"
6.) "Who? Oh, is he still the coach up there?....."
7.) "Unlike some schools in this conference, we follow the rules here...."
8.) "I miss they days when they actually fielded a decent football program..."
9.) "We've got fan and administration support top to bottom, not to mention great stability in the coaching staff....."
10.) "I went through a coaching change back when I was a player. Believe me, it's no fun."

Penn State/Ms. Peacock in the conservatory/locker room with the candlestick/race card

It's Mr. Mustard who plays the race card on their behalf. He has a deep bitterness over the historical treatment the Dijon people.
That's a really bad joke but I couldn't resist.

It's obviously Indiana on the home visit with the facilities...
It doesn't matter, Michigan got a top 20 class after winning eight games in two years--negative recruiting didn't help whomever out that much. This is one of those cases where fans have nothing to talk about for six or so months and create an artificial firestorm of inuendo.

Seriously, has a guy ever done less with more? He had Drew Breeze and couldn't win a Big 10 title.

You would be wise to heed my signature.
February 8th, 2010 at 2:48 PM ^
Actually, he did win the Big Ten with Brees (in 2000). And he inherited a Purdue program that hadn't been to a bowl in a decade and took them to bowls almost every year. So yes, many guys have done less with more.

He was an assistant back then.
February 8th, 2010 at 6:55 PM ^
Who was an assistant? Not Tiller. Tiller was the head coach from about 1996 or 1997.

I was referring to Hope actually, for some odd reason I read the previous reply as in reference to Hope. My bad.
