Suggestions for Autographed Items

Submitted by El Demonio on

I have a friend who will get me the autograph of one of our living Heisman trophy winners, so long as I provide the item to be autographed.

I think I'd prefer a helmet over a jersey, but I am looking for suggestions here.

Should I purchase one of the newer helmets (Schutt) or the traditional stand-by (Riddell)?

Also, any suggestions for a particular brand of marker and color that work best?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks and Go Blue!

who had any degree of success actually playing sports will follow along and be fans but they don't get wrapped up in stuff like autographs or memorobilia.   The typically don't even wear gear.  Look in the stands when they show ex jocks or alums. They are in street clothes.  Various reasons why but it's a fact.

Same guys who collect/ed comic books, and play/ed dungeons and dragons go after autographs and memorobilia. Nothing wrong with that, it's just "weird" to me (ie. alien, or unusal).   I didn't say it was wrong or something Clay Aiken might do. Just weird.

I started off thinking this was the correct answer. But the more I thought about it the more I realized that collecting autographs is really no different than collecting and/or enjoying artwork or DVDs or Harley Davidson stuff or Apple products. So yeah. No.

OP. Get what you love most. Sounds like it's the helmet. Pick the style you love most too. Because it's your piece, my friend. Go Blue!

ADVICE HELP

I've been wanting to ask this question for awhile - I'm glad someone started a thread I could throw this question on.

I mentor and train an amazing freshman football WR in VA (I met him while coaching his AAU bball team). He's a freshman playing varsity in football and basketball, but I think his future is football. He will get D1 looks for sure.

This kid is a refugee orphan from Sierra Leone. Lost his parents in a horrible story, and is living without real family here in real hard environment. but he's a fighter and a great kid. It's my mission to get that boy into college.

BTN had a sportlight on Amara Darboh and his path from an Sierra Leone orphan refugee to UM. Great 10 minute piece. Since I showed it to him, he has mentioned it several times. He just changed his jersey number to 82 for spring ball seven on seven. He told me he wants to be like Darboh and make it to UM. I just want to help get him into a good academic/football program.

I want to get a signed photo of Darboh and give it to this boy as encouragement from someone he looks up to. Of course Darboh would be willing to sign something for this kid if he knew the situation. But I live in Virginia. I was planing on writing or contacting the athletic department. But I'm guessing they get lots of random requests....

... and finally the question: any advice on the best department / official / path/ approach to do this?

Officially, the Athletic Department does not accommodate these types of requests.

http://www.mgoblue.com/community/donations.html

U-M Athletics will consider the donation of head coach autographed items, apparel packages and golf gift certificates for charitable endeavors. As a result of time constraints and NCAA Compliance regulations, requests for head coach and student-athlete autographed items for personal endeavors (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) will not be accommodated, except at designated U-M Athletic events. U-M Athletics will not accommodate requests for student-athlete autographs. Due to high demand and NCAA Compliance regulations, we do not offer tickets as a charitable donation.

The best setting for this type of thing is Youth Day, which takes place in the summer. If you can't attend, maybe another MGoBlogger can pick up the autograph on your behalf.
