"Oh my gosh," said Jennifer Conley, Rashan's mother. "L.A. is absolutely beautiful."

Gary already made official visits to Mississippi, Auburn and Michigan, and he is contemplating a visit to either LSU, Alabama or Clemson. Ohio State is also trying to get involved with a Monday in-home visit.

"He could definitely go to USC," Conley said. "The visit was a game-changer."

"I learned that USC is a great school academically," Conley said. "They showed me their plan for success for Rashan, how they will implement his classes to his schedule, individualized tutoring. Most campuses that we have been to have the same thing, but I know Michigan and USC are two of the better academic colleges, where their degrees hold weight. "They encourage their football players to get internships. It's very comparable to what I felt at Michigan, but the weather was good."

When a parent takes center stage in a recruitment, I just assume the kid is going elsewhere. It seems like it becomes about what the parent gets out of the deal rather than the kid. Not saying that's the case here, but that's the impression I get.

Wow! This is close to a board melt down!!

If Gary doesn't go Blue, I'm gonna have to stay off the board for at least a week since the apocalypse will soon follow!

Honestly, it's a good thing he visited USC now and not next weekend. I have a feeling when he gets around people he knows, the shine of USC will quickly be forgotten

"It's very comparable to what I felt at Michigan, but the weather was good."

Someone needs to tell his mother that cold weather makes big strong smart successful men. Where as an over abundance of sunshine, and warm tempatures tends to turn people into frilly girly man douchebags that say "brah" at the end of each sentence.

buck up, campers, ffs.

I visited Stanford. Even got academically 'crooted by them a little bit.

I thought about it, it was really pleasant there, but ultimately I didn't want to be that far from my roots.

I think it's pretty clear this recruitment has cooled quite a bit as he has gotten to nitty gritty time. Nobody knows how much time he spent giving this serious consideration until now and these visits could definitely carry much more weight than anything over the last couple of years. He doesn't seem like the type who is doing this because he loves attention, quite he opposite. I'm more Than comfortable losing this one and very happy with our class. Win 12-15 games a season consistently and we'll get more than our fare share of Rashan Gary's in the years to come.

According to experts, the only "Rashan Gary" that has existed in the last 15 years is Clowney, so I don't think there will be another for a while. That being said, we could use a guy like him QUITE A LOT. I'm not as pessimistic about our chances though given the plethora of advantages Michigan has over all other schools he is considering. Maybe he wants to get away from everything/everyone he grew up around, but we already have former teammates, pals, coaches, etc. in our favor. He didn't commit to USC on his trip, so if you check the boxes for each school with a clear head I will be surprised if Michigan isn't on top. Even moreso if we snag his best friend who I believe just visited. That's like three dudes in his class that he is good friends with ON TOP OF his former high school coach as a position coach. It just keeps on adding up for the good guys despite what's coming out of these visits.

Wouldn't worry too much - it seems like mom is just trying to milk the recruiting process for all its worth. I think most recruits pick schools based on comfort, and there isn't one school that Gary would be more comfortable at than Michigan.

I live in LA and despite the mentioned gentrification, USC is still in a dumpy area (Just look at the Los Angeles Times crime report tracker). In fact, most of LA east of Beverly Hills is kind of hit or miss, and if you're not used to the culture here, it definitely takes some getting used to... USC does have tradition, but they still don't sell out many football games, and some of the guy alums that I know will take a girl to a game for a date and leave at halftime - it's pretty pathetic. It's just not the best sports town as there are too many other things to do. In other words, Gary wouldn't be getting the same god like treatment here being a star football player that he may get in some SEC or B1G programs. Not sure if he would or would not like that.

I think the distance thing is less of a factor for mom, but could be a factor for Rashan. Would likely have to make all new friends and sift through all the fake LA people trying to live off of his potential NFL fame. It is concerning that he is letting this carry on for so long, but I suppose you are only the most hyped #1 recruit in years once in your life, so you have to take advantage of it.

Go Blue!

Its just a visit. Sure the weather in Cali is great, but he's not going to college for weather he's going to college to get an education and play football. USC is a decent academic institution and they have a hisory of football tradition but ask, what what are the negatives.

1. A long way from home.

2. missing your family and friends because you cant see them as often

3. Nearly everyone's an actor/actress and its hard to tell who are your real friends from people trying to use you.

4. New head coach with no proven record of success. Rumor has it that he will be fired in 3 years anyway unless he quickly turns things around. Same goes for defensve coordinator and no DL coach.

6. The California lifestyle of parties, drugs, fast cars, women at the playboy mansion can distract you from your goal.

What about U of M?

1. Much closer to home

2. Will see family and friends more often and mom can maintain a watchful eye.

3. Could play with friends and be around people he has known for years which helps keep him grounded.

4. Superior academics

5. Would play for one of the top 5 football coaches in the sport who comes from a family of successful coaches on all three levels. Tons of NFL experience on staff including former players. Institutional connections are second to none.

6. Kids go to U of M and play football becuase it gives them the best chance to play in the NFL and succeed while at the same time becoming outstanding men and future leaders.

7. All time winningest program.

8. The biggest stage in football.

9. biggest and strongest alumni base.

Rashan's mom won't be convinced because of warm weather. Most of the NFL teams are in cities where it snows anyway. Hell, in a few years he will have enough money to buy his own island in the Caribean if he stays focused.
