A Crazy Night of Football "Day After" Snowflakes Thread

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

One more thread to consolidate the thoughts on everything that happened yesterday/last night. Before the sports media world completely switches to the NFL.

Thoughts now that you've had a chance to process?

We ALL want BAYLOR to win out.

They'll knock Oklahoma and probably Oklahoma St. below us...and they'll knock TCU below us. We may need Oklahoma to beat Okie St., but we need Baylor to beat all 3.

GO BEARS!

If Baylor wins out we would jump the entire Big 12 except, of course, Baylor.

Because we have two losses and it wouldn't guarantee we'd jump them.

If you're Oklahoma St. and your 1 loss is to Baylor or you're Baylor and your one loss is to Oklahoma or TCU...you're going to be ranked pretty high.

Remember last year, Baylor and TCU each had one loss and they were #5 and #6.

You want Baylor to give them 2 losses and concede a spot in the playoff to undefeated Baylor.

The easiest route, IMO, is Clemson/Bama/Baylor/Michigan...but like Alum pointed out, if if we lucked into that 1% chance, we're probably not at that level. A Rose Bowl vs. Stanford would be awesome for THIS team.

we also have to worry about Stanford and ND. If Stanford loses to Oregon or Cal, beats ND and then beats Utah in the PAC 12 championship game, it would be between 11-2 UM, 11-2 Stanford, and 10-2 ND for the last spot. ND would probably be relegated to the 6th seed and it would come down to resume's for that 4th spot.

And beat ND.

ND doesn't play anyone until they get to Stanford...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried to put it together last night because I was bored.

Run the table the rest of the way and beat an undefeated OSU and an undefeated Iowa.

That dropped punt will haunt us. Still a NY6, but we'd need serious help to get into the playoff.

  • LSU would have to lose again
  • Notre Dame would have to lose again
  • Baylor would need to beat TCU
  • Bama over Florida in the SEC Championship (or FSU over Florida)
  • Oklahoma would need to lose again
  • Oklahoma St. would need to lose...maybe twice
  • Utah would need to lose again
  • Stanford would need to lose again

If all this happens...

Clemson, Bama, Baylor, Michigan

Much more likely is win out and you're in the NY6 Bowl, which in Harbaugh's first year...awesome. Just sucks that the punt would keep us out of being a 1 loss team in the Playoff.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Possible losses for the teams we need to lose.

LSU: @ Ole Miss, vs. TAMU

Notre Dame: @ Stanford

Baylor over TCU

UF: FSU and (likely) Bama

Okla: vs. Baylor, vs. TCU, vs. Okie St.

Okie St.: vs. Baylor, Okla

Utah: @Arizona, vs. UCLA, Pac-12 Championship

Stanford: vs. Cal, vs. Oregon, (BEAT ND), Pac-12 Championship

Good point about last year 1 loss team. It will be cool if TCU somehow beats Baylor, after Baylor beats Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. If that happens, I see them not getting the nod even with 1 loss. There is a chance...

It's hard for me to see how a 2-loss team gets into the CFP. But the path to the Rose Bowl just got a little clearer. OSU beats MSU, we beat OSU and we're in the Big 10 Championship. Beat Iowa and BOOM.

Ohio State is the one who controls it's destiny... No loss in conference... We're tied with MSU right now... They hold the tie breaker...

Scenario 1: MSU beats Ohio State(then MSU controls its' destiny), we beat Ohio State... And it's MSU to the CCG, we're 10-2 and waiting.

Scenario 2: OSU beats MSU, UM beats Ohio State... Then UM and OSU are tied, with UM holding the tie-breaker!

Have to say - the moment JH had with Peppers on the sideline, after Peppers bad ass 18 yard TD run ... was too cool! I rewound & watched that 3 times I think.

On a side note - thats what we should have been doing with Denard - instead of leaving him on the sideline in the 2nd half of that OSU game in Columbus... we could have & should have won. That still infuriates me - ugh.
