Wayne Lyons?

Submitted by CincyBlue on

After reading Brian's Defense UFR on his concern for the 2nd CB spot, got me thinking about Wayne Lyons.

Does anyone have any inside info on why he isn't playing?

On the depth chart he is listed as a safety, on the roster as a CB.

the fact that he was never that great at Stanford. He was a heralded recruit but never became more than a average (at best) DB. I thought he'd play some but had no illusions that he'd be one of our better DBs.

Lyons was good enough to start on the #11 D in the country last year.  I'd say that whatever Stribling and Clark's weaknesses may be, the fact that they are better than the worst guy starting on Stanford (and that's being pessimistic) tells you they aren't that bad.

If the worst guy on Michigan's current D is better than the worst guy on Stanford's 2014 D....we doing just fine.

Filed under: problems most teams would love to have: the biggest personnel concern on defense is a competition between two tall, fast, upperclassmen CBs who are keeping a proven 5th year starter on the bench.

very true but he had some very iffy performances. I think his incoming ranking had a lot to do with playing as I think they were hoping it would click for him. He's not atrocious (!) but I don't think it's anything more than a guy not making it on the field for clear reasons. He's very likely the kind of player that's behind a few guys at CB & S.
