Chryst has always kind of reminded me of Hoke, and here's another reason why. He doesn't provide much rationale for this move beyond a comfort factor, even though it's pretty proven at this point that it's an inferior scheme. It'll be interesting to see how much Wisconsin's special teams play regresses this year.

Spread coverage - kind if like the spread offense - takes the athleticism disparity inherent in college football and makes it a strength instead of a weakness. Also, the intelligence/discipline disparity. If Chryst can teach a disciplined, coordinated pro-style coverage, he could succeed here. It's just that anything pro-style puts an emphasis on consistent executuion, which is a lot more difficult than spread coverage. If he's a good teacher, things will work out. Hoke, on the other hand, could make rabbits worse at having sex.

Reminds me of when Wisconsin fans chanted boring on Gameday towards Michigan in the Carr era.  Wisconsin has always tried to style itself after dinosaurs, so this doesn't surprise me.  I actually think Chryst will be alright.

wisco friends of mine are worried - this has the makings of a bad hire. they drove Bielema out and now they get their guy, who didn't exactly light it up at Pitt. it will be interesting to see what happens.

It can kinda work if you field enough guys.  But yeah, it used to be people would argue it made it harder to fake with spread punting until it wasn't shown to be true.  Now, I don't really understand why any college team uses traditional shield punting.
