OT - 24th annual Wings sre Playoff Bound celebration

Submitted by Red_Lee on
Just got a foot of snow with a layer of ice up here in the yoop and I'm about to trudge off to work, but dammit the Wings ugly crawled their way into the playoffs so I'll ugly crawl to work. Let's Go Red Wings! Also LOL Kings.

True about Nyquist and Tatar, but it just seems like their production pace has been doused with cold water the last month and change or so. Hopefully a spark is forthcoming. They're also not big on physical battles for the puck. I realize they're more finesse guys, but you've gotta be willing to fight for the puck at least.

I would laugh about snow in April down here under the bridge, but then I would be forgetting that some of the more interesting snow and ice events we've had over time have happened in the early April timeframe.

As for 24 years in the playoffs at some depth or capacity, it is pretty amazing and makes one appreciate how lucky we are to have a franchise like the Wings here in the area. I mean, 24 years ago, I was in eighth grade, which now at 36 seems like it was forever ago somehow.

Mother's day 2014 4 inches of snow sticking to the ground in Colorado.  Labor day 2014 3 inches of snow sticking the ground in Colorado.  Pretty typical stuff.  Snow in April really ins't all that exceptional.

Flurries in the Twin Cities and Red wings in the playoffs. I desperately want them to do well, but let's be honest. They're too soft up front and too turnover prone on defense. Howard is the least of their problems. Babcock is out the door to Edmonton or Pittsburgh (if the Pens don't make the playoffs). I predict Rangers over Ducks for the Cup.

Lol Edmonton? LOLOLOLOL you honestly can't say that with a straight face, they make the Leafs look situation look good.

I'm curious though, why does everybody seem to think Babs is gone, as if it's a done deal already. This isn't the type of thing the Wings fuck up on, in fact keeping the right people (yes yes I know Franzen) is part of the reason this team has made the playoffs 24 consecutive seasons.

Because Daryl Katz doesn't broom anyone. Hell Tambellini was GM there for 5 years and didn't do jack, and still McTavish only in 2013 replaced him. And Sasky is a ways from Edmonton... If you were the owner it'd be a good move but Katz doesn't operate like that.

The Wings will most likely be able to match any offer besides Toronto's.

I understand him being ready for a new challenge but I highly doubt that Edmonton is that place. They have some young potential but that team is garbage top to bottom. Pittsburgh and Buffalo strike me as the most likely places.

because Babs would should have had a deal last offseason.  A coach at that level doesn't play around; the draft and free agency come quick right after the finals... a coach has other things to prioritize after the season than contract negotiations.

Give 'em a break, they only started watching hockey again in 2010! You can't expect them to fully understand what a model franchise looks like.

I mean, if they only knew Chicago literally took the philosophy of Detroit (and some personel and players to boot) before they started winning again. At least the fans remembered how to get to the United Center again.

Anyone else have a hockey rooting pecking order?

1. Wings

2. Canadian Teams

3. Original Six

4. Cities that actually get snow that aren't Pittsburgh or have Syndey Crosby

5. Southern teams with Yzerman as GM

6. Southern teams not named after Disney Movies

7. I guess the Ducks

8. I guess Pittsburgh

9. Teams in Ohio

10. Can't think of any scenario where I'd root for Colorado.

1. Wings

...20 other teams...

22. Blow Jackets

23. Stars

24. Ducks

25. Avs

26. Habs

27. Sharks

28. Hawks

29. Pens

30. Bruins

I guess it's just easier to name who I don't like. Bottom five could probably be put in just about any order.

Accepted a job in Colorado the week we chased Roy and scored 7 in the 02 Conference Finals. Still here but man is my heart and soul still in Michigan.  Can't stand Aves.

My son just got his master's degree in December and the Wings have never NOT made the playoffs in his entire life. That adds perspective to this great run for me.

Also this is just a little bit sweeter because Boston is most likely hosed.  They have to beat Tampa and then hope that either Ottawa earns no points against already-eliminated Philly, or that Pittsburgh gets one or zero points in two games.
