Something that concerns me about the Florida/Alabama game...

Submitted by Jamal Crawford on
First thread, and this might come off as somewhat negative (i think its more of an important question), so, please, bear with me... alright, so meyer runs the same zone-read-option offense as rich rod, right? he's got one of the best defensive coordinators in the game in charlie strong, right? he's had top five recruiting classes since he's been there, right? he's got the closest thing there is to god in college football at the most important position, right? so, in other words, he's sort of "maxed" out rich rod's coaching philosophy. but alabama pounded them with a basic nfl pound it to set up the pass offense, a basic nfl 3-4 defense, and a similar level of talent. now, i think that rich rod is going to build us into the powerhouse of the big10. i think that we are going to have multiple 12-0 seasons. i think that we are going to multiple national championship games. but nick saban is going to be at alabama for a long time. is rich rod ever going to put together a team that can beat him? or are we going to be limited to hoping that alabama has a mishap or two each season in the sec?

With the way Alabama played today I don't think there's another team in the country that could keep up with them. BUT, you've also gotta remember they also had some games where they scraped out a win by the skin of their teeth (Tenn, Auburn). As long as Saban is there they'll be similar to USC/Oklahoma/Florida/Texas and be legitimate national title contenders almost every year, but even those teams need everything to go right to make it through a season perfect. Basically I just don't think it's possible to build an unbeatable program in college football today. Sometimes the spread team will win, sometimes it'll be the power team but I wouldn't try to read too much of a long term trend from one game.

I'm worried about beating the teams on our schedule. RR's offenses have done great in BCS games beating a talented Georgia team and of course the drubbing of Oklahoma. I won't lose sleep over worrying if we can beat Nick Saban. But I'll cross that bridge if we get to it. GO BLUE

I'm noticing that I'm getting some negative rankings on some of these posts...but I'm not certain why with some of them. There are a few that are debatable stances, but others are pretty neutral. Could someone explain this to me?

Because you are the exact same person who everyone has hated the past week. Plus, you have approximately 45 posts on just this one topic. You know exactly why you are getting negged so you are just trying to post more to try to balance it out. You are not very good at hiding your identity.

You know how sometimes you eat your favorite food, but after eating way too much you feel sick and never want to even contemplate eating it again? Its kind of like that. Over-saturation is never a good thing. Moderation is the key. EDIT: I really don't know why I'm being civil, you know exactly what your doing.

People here aren't stupid. We all know who you really are. Just tone it down a little and you'll be OK. You don't have to reply to EVERY post on your thread. For someone who's been saying MGoPoints are meaningless, you're sure posting a lot just to bump your point total. Trust me, it's more obvious than you think. Chill out a bit.

Florida has been overated all year and wether any of us like him or not, Nick Saban is a great college coach who had the right gameplan tonight. He came out in a spread offense which threw Florida off its defensive plan. I don't think that this game can be used as a precedent on how Michigan will fare against other similar teams in the future. Bama will be a relevant team in the bcs picture as long as Saban is there but as shown by USC this year even the programs who are good for pro-longed periods of time have down years.

Well you took my advice and created a new account, but unfortunately it didn't work for you. You bring up a decent question, so here's my opinion FWIW: IMO, college football teams can be successful with either a spread or a pro-style offense. It's not about the scheme as much as it's about the players that fit the scheme. This year's Bama team has all the pieces needed to run a great pro-style offense. They have a solid line, a heisman candidate at RB, one of the best receivers in the nation, and a QB who manages games well. They also have a pretty solid defense. Florida doesn't really have the amazing talent at their skill positions that they had last year. Losing Harvin and Murphy really hurt. Cooper and Demps are good skill players, but nothing amazing. Going forward, I think both Meyer and Saban will win their fair share of SEC titles with their respective schemes. There will be years when Saban has the better pieces like this year, and years when Meyer has the better pieces like last year. Other teams, such as LSU, Georgia, and Auburn, will also win SEC titles when they have the right pieces.

This is ridiculous. I'll award you for persistence Jamal Crawford (Nick Saban???) in this thread, but geez you posted a TON of replies in this thread. I'd take a couple day break.

Why is everyone hating on Jamal Crawford so badly? lol I know he probably is that Nick Saban guy... but why dont we just not give him neg or pos points for a while until he actually proves he's legit? Why take him out so fast? Either way I just think this would be epically amusing if it actually wasn't Nick Saban. Call me an optimist. In my general studies writing class here at Bowling Green I wrote a paper on a why "Michigan Will Win a National Championship in 2011", "How to Turn Around the Detroit Lions So They Win a Super Bowl by 2013", and finally for my final this weekend "Why Rich Rodriguez will be Michigan's Greatest Coach" lol I've actually enjoyed Jamal Crawford's statements so far.

Partly, but he has posted so many fricken times in this thread that I don't think anybody wants to give him that chance. I honestly was ok with this thread topic and some of his responses, but he responded to almost every reply. He's an MGoPoint hooker. We also know what he is capable of. Maybe if he makes another account and cuts back on the posting a little and decides to not be dumb, we will forget about it.

I agree with what you say, honestly. It's fine to keep the finger on the trigger, but it's pretty stupid to just negbang people who post a lot. If he starts acting like a dick again, then negbang him; otherwise, let it go. I don't think he's posted much useful so far though, but that's not negbang-worthy unless he does it in multiple threads.
