Hoping Southpark doesn't call it quits next. What a rough year for CC

The Daily Show was my favorite show for a good length of time. Then Steve Carell left, then Colbert left, then Ed Helms was gone, then Rob Corddry (or something similar) and while there were plenty of good correspondents after, they never got to the same level.

For me, Jon Stewart has a great delivery but to me was never really the main comedy of the show. It was harder to watch when he became more activist and preachy with his show rather than a satirist. I agreed with him a lot but it was uncomfortable when he became a flat out jerk to his guests he disagreed with which he did more and more over the years. Still, it will be tough to find someone who can replace him.

I strongly agree with this. I might throw Riggle in with your top 4.

There was a time when he satirized all politicians and at some point he just got a bit too one sided. He was still entertaining but his agenda push had me tuning in less over the years and just catching the good clips on social media.

Hes not very well known and will probably never get a look, but Andy Levy from Red Eye would do well on a satire news show. It would be a different flavor and probably a different audience

I've already heard rumors that Jon Stewart is going to take over for Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News.  That'd be something to see.  This, though, makes me sad, as The Daily Show was about the best news program you could find.

I used to watch this show a lot from Kilbourne to Stewart.  I started falling off watching this show about 5 years ago, and rarely watch it now, but Jon did a great job and he will be fine in whatever venture he embarks in next.  Hopefully they can find a good replacement for him.

Eh, it was time. I do wish he had waited until the upcoming election was over. I DVR every episode and have done that since I was in High School. Would go out get schwammied, snag a few double cheeseburgers from McDonalds and then watch the 1:00 rerun. That would have been 2004 ... wow!

Anyways, his show got progressively more left. Which yeah I know thats him but I felt like it got further and further to where I as a left thinking dude would notice.

The new guy he has named Jordan Klepper is gold and should be the one to take over, imho ... or the Iron Sheik!

Eh, feels like the show has run its course.  There is only so many times you can make fun of the same people on Fox News before the joke gets stale

I hope they maintain a similar format for the show, whoever the host is.  My fondness for the show has never come from Stewart's opinions running parallel to my own, but rather it's ability to point out the absurdities of our system in ways that non-satirical methods have trouble accomplishing.

What's odd to me is how many people I see suggesting that Stewart has become more partisan over time.  I can remember him lobbing some of the weakest softballs ever to John Kerry and admitting afterward that he blew it, whereas he clearly loves Obama but has been willing several times to go after him anyway (even face to face on the show.)  So I think he's actually gotten better with experience, going from a pure comedian to a guy that at least puts some effort into research and holding both parties accountable.  Is he equally critical of everyone?  Of course not, although I've yet to find anyone in the media who is without bias.

All that said, I think the best work the Daily Show has done is point out the problems that are so deeply rooted in our system that they go way beyond left/right.  You don't have to be liberal or conservative to have a problem with corruption, for example.  This is where I've most appreciated Stewart and his program, and hope someone else can come along and keep it going.

I never found him all that funny. Most of his material is regurgitated over and again. He has his moments, but I never understood the high ratings and love for the show.

I don't always agree with his takes, but he is a very funny man.

I also appreciated that he called idiocy idiocy regardless of the side of the aisle from which it arose.

I don't watch much television outside of Wolverine football games (really) and so I rarely saw his show, but he was an attention grabber. I hope he doesn't take a stuffy news job as it would waste his talent. As he himself said, he'll never find another job for which he's so perfectly suited.
