OT: CMU hires Lions Special Teams coach John Bonamego as HC.
This is a really bad hire. His special teams in Detroit were a disaster.

Should've hired Hoke. That would've been a home run for them.

Coaching CMU after being UM's head coach would be a major comedown.

I think being fired from UofM was enough of a "comedown" already. That said, Hoke reported he's taking a year off to be with family. Hope he enjoys the time.

You have Annese, an offensive innovator who has been successful at every stop, just down the road and instead you hire a career special team's coach? I don't really undertand the thinking behind that one.

Annese is never getting a better job after the incident where he was suspended for hitting players. Not a chance in hell an FBS school is touching that with a 10 foot pole.

Loved sliding down that hill!

Shepherd born and raised here as well as a CMU alumnus. Getting back on topic I think I just heard my father-in-law cuss Heeke out 8 hours away from Mt. P. Yikes, what a horrible/terrible hire.

How will this affect their LOI's? I can't imagine that not having a head coach helped in recruiting, but did Central get any LOI's that they can now hold guys to?
February 6th, 2015 at 8:48 PM ^
??? As this hadn't been discussed enough already but LOI's are to a school and not a coach. Central signed 18 kids for this cycle despite not having a HC.

The response was appropriate. How many LOI's can they hold onto? Most likely all of them unless something strange happens.
If 18 signed with no coach in place, they really have no argument unless they were guaranteed they would have a quality coach. /s

Central Football has been at or below .500 almost every season the past 5 years. This does not really seem that encouraging.

Brian Kelly, Butch Jones and Dan Enos were supposed to be hires that had the in-state roadmap for recuiting. I have now idea who this guy is. Enos set the bar pretty low, so he has that going for him.

Listen, when you can hire the coach behind the 31st-ranked ST in the NFL, you gotta pull that trigger.

Go Broncos, PJ Fleck is the swaggiest coach in America. RTB. LOL.

I did some coverage on this for Ferris State's newspaper and Tony told me that he was never even in contact with CMU. Personally, I think he would have been a great hire for them, and there were a million reasons for Annese to go if he was offered the job, but I'm glad he's sticking around here.
