Cass Tech 2015 LB Michael Oliver is visiting today
Detroit (MI) Cass Tech linebacker Michael Oliver, a CMU commit, is visiting Michigan today. He's a 247 Composite 3-star, the #78 inside linebacker, and the #48 player in the state. Here are his highlights.

He's blitzing on a lot of them. Not all of them. Yes, you can make up for being a little slower if you are quick at reading the play, but I just don't think it's ideal in today's game. There are too many spread teams who put their guys in space, and the slow defenders can't keep up.

maybe weber would come because of him. i am sure this will be brought up some time.

Package deal, Oliver/Weber. Book it.
I MAY still be drunk from last night. Yup, I am.
Um... Cass Tech High School Football Rules!

I could see this as being a good last minute contigency. They may tell him not to send in his LOI early on signing day and if Michigan strikes out they could offer him that day.
I don't think a kid committed to CMU would be offended by that.

I bet he could play FB or be a situaitonal pass rusher perhaps as a DE but I dont see him being an every down ILB in the Big Ten. I don't think he has the athleticism.

A 5'11", 220 lb. defensive end not known for his speed is probably not ideal...

Do people read their posts before clicking "Save?!"
I'm not so sure that kid's going to be able to play the middle of a 4-3 defense. A 4-2-5 or nickle set may cut the field in half for him, but I'd question his abilities in coverage in those sets.
He looks like a CMU Middle Linebacker and a UM Fullback.

Fullback is the only thing that makes sense.

The staff was put in a tough situation. I think they've already done some impressive flips in a fairly short time. Still, there are slots to fill while time and options are getting limited. These are plan B type guys, but we're going to need some of those.Thankfully it's a small class.
Harbaugh will be an excellent recruiter, but as said above, he's not a miracle worker.

Gotta keep that pipeline...

Seems like Urban is putting an end to that for the time being... Gotta give Urbz n co props... they're relentless.
January 31st, 2015 at 4:41 PM ^
Let Urbz have the Cass Tech kids, not one has amounted to shit at the college level.

First of all, you're wrong.
Second of all, you're being overly harsh.

We have had a bunch from Cass Tech, 4 stars and a 5 star.May be unfair but the reality is they haven't panned out.Wasn't thrilled with taking midget corners every year and hope we don't continue going that route.Weber may turn out to be really really good, but if so he'd be the 1st.

Curious who has panned out, been a stud at the college level?
January 31st, 2015 at 5:28 PM ^
I never said any of them have been studs, but that's a far cry from being "shit."
I would say Jourdan Lewis, Thomas Gordon, and William Campbell have all been pretty solid. Lewis has a chance to be very good. There are some more guys going back lots of years, and there are some guys currently on the roster who haven't reached their upperclassman years (Dawson, Hill, etc.) out of Cass Tech.

I think I remember Gholston being pretty good, and wishing he was not a buck boy........

Dior Mathis has had a decent career at Oregon, too.

Fuck Urban. He's a slimeball.

So it looks like it's down to:
Desperate to fill a spot and raiding the Chips.
Keeping options open, in case an expected letter never comes.
A conversion to FB.
A courtesy interview.
Let's just get it over with and add preferred walk on, and grey shirt. Any of those are fine with me except the first, which I can't see as being the case at all.
I'm about due for a Titos and Michigan Blueberry Kool Aid: We are going to get Weber, Marshall, Clark, Wheatley, Smith and Jefferson.... or a bunch of other guys who great coaches will mold into great players, and fine young men. Those who come will never regret their decision.

Let's do it.
