Yeah, I don't get this at all. Your school was involved in one of the most heinous "power of sports" crimes of the modern era...and now you are going to celebrate that because your team won some games. It's just sickening.

Yeah, I just don't get it.  I'm a pretty balanced person who can usually see multiple sides to an issue.

I know there is lots of controversy over what may or may not have happened on campus or on the football program's watch.

But how pride can be the natural response of being found institutionally innocent in a situation like this or how an instituion feels a 'public boast' is at all an approporiate response is beyond my comprehension.

Continued blind ignorance to the fact that their beloved saint, while intentional or not, helped cover up a serial child molester that ruined countless lives.

I met several PSU students this past summer who swore to me that this was not a football problem and that no one outside of Penn State really "got it." The delusion of many of their fans is sickening.

Give it a few months and there will be petitions to put Paterno's statue back up.

I just posted the below on the BSD thread on the this topic. Someone came here to gauge our reaction and came away with the thought that our anger was our problem and that we were only angry b/c it meant PSU could catch UM in all-time wins more easily. It was too much for me to take:

"I'm a guy who grew up on (and rooted for; Greg Garrity, Giftopolous int, etc) PSU in Philly before going to UM for college. Now I still follow PSU from afar. For the first time in my life I can say Eff PSU with minimal thought or guilt.

Some of you really don't get it. Speaking for myself and I would guess most of the UM fanbase, we could give two ****s about wins. All-time wins/percentages etc. means zilch. It hasn't helped UM field a competent FB team this past decade. The NCAA sucks and really doesn't have the authority to do that anyway given the case.

The reason why the vast majority of the CFB fanbase (don't believe me? I'm happy to take bets on the next ESPN fan poll numbers) hates PSU right now is not because we never read the whole Freeh report (or if we did, didn't read the Thornburgh report, or whatever) or because of PSU envy, it's because of things like the 409 stickers/t-shirts, etc. that suggest football wins are more important than what actually went down in this case and the, clear to everyone else, fact that the PSU football culture at least contributed to the case playing out the way it did.

Here is my prediction: this ruling, and some of the responses here and through the PSU AD (stickers, etc) are going to put a stain on PSU that will be with it for a decade or (likely) more. Any hesitation other fan bases might have had to bring this stuff up will go away because it looks like no one has learned their lesson, namely that the culture of PSU football and hagiography of someone who was flawed like the rest of us contributed to this situation.

As a fanbase, you can feel free not to care, exclaim eff you or eff Michigan (or whatever other fanbases may cast aspersions upon PSU in this case) and be comfortable being perceived so negatively that PSU is essentially a pariah. It worked for Miami for a long time. You can develop even more of an us vs. the world bunker mentality, since this is going to come up a lot (again, my prediction). You can claim unfair treatment, that by the letter of the law Joe Pa acted appropriately and that his reputation should not be significantly tarnished, that only Sandusky and Curley and Spanier were the parties at fault.  That won't change anything. Why? because the rest of the CFB world believes in a narrative where it was always more about wins than anything else in this case, and threads like this one, and 409 stickers, and the rest, does nothing but confirm it."

Only appropriate place for this. NCAA, PSU, fans, admin are all jokes. And the icing on the cake is they are in our conference and division. Definition of unwatchable-Matt Millen doing next year's PSU games and spewing 3 hours of St. Paterno stories.

Here's the big problem for me: PSU FANS, 19??-2010: "JoePa IS Penn State! No one walks, talks, breathes or works in this town without his permission. He is BIGGER than the university, because he has success WITH honor!" PSU FANS, 2011-present: "He's an old man! He's just the football coach! What was he supposed to do??"

PSU fans clamoring for a share of lost bowl revenue from the B1G  as well. They want the statue back as well. I don't think a link to their forum would be appreciated here.

and the kids that sweat and bled on that field, that broke their bones, tore their ligaments, ruined their careers, and sustained permanent life altering injuries. Their hard work should count for nothing?
