Anytime you can step up from the 44th ranked FEI defense in the country to the 25th ranked FEI defense in the country, you gotta do it.

Don't blame the kid at all. However, I have a general question. Have players/recruits always committed to a "coach" over the "school"? I know transfers/recruit losses are inevitable during coaching transitions, but to me the idea of transferring/decommitting from a school during transition seems much more prevalent than years ago.

Just another move by a player who took a space of someone more dedicated to the U than dedicated to Brady Hoke.  Good luck at that fine school WVU.

Bummer. I thought he was the kind of guy that would stick around through this mess. That's not meant to be a knock on him, but with all the work he put together in putting the 2014 class together, he seemed like he was in for the long haul. Oh well, best of luck, Michael.

Hopefully the exodus of players after this is minimal. Whether we get Harbaugh or not, we can't afford a 2010 recruiting class kind of situation where essentially we have one entire grade level of players wiped out.

...for Michael Ferns.  Some possibilities, after a year at UofM:

  • Found it too far away from family & friends; he may be more comfortable closer to his home
  • Enrolled early but was red-shirted; he may feel he has a better chance of seeing the field as a starter at WVU
  • Did not like Ann Arbor; the student body, politics, & values too liberal for him
  • Found it too difficult to major in engineering and play football; no internal assistance in helping him do both?

One of my sons went to UofM and loved it.  Another did not like UofM/Ann Arbor and graduated from PSU.

Transfers will happen even if Harbaugh becomes the next coach players will always leave. With that said for those worried about recruting IMO getting Harbaugh would be like landing ten 5 star recruits
