Urban Meyer Call-in Show
For those few people still clinging to hope that Hoke can be the guy, please contrast this call-in show featuring Urban Meyer with the bumbling clip released last night where Hoke couldn't remember really anything.
I used to disdain Meyer, for multiple reasons. For him to be required to sign a contract with his family to spend time with them as chief among them. Also, the BCSCG from the 2006 season, the politicking, his smugness, etc.
I've done a 180 on him. He seems to lack what most people would refer to as a personality, and he may be a workaholic father that doesn't do a good job balancing family time. I never would have thought this, but I have been forced to respect him. In this particular example, he let's random fans call in and ask pointed questions about the program, then he honestly and comprehensively answers them. Seemingly without reverting to any coach speak. I listened to his call in show today at lunch, I'm usually not in my car at this time. It was... refreshing.
So neg away, as I know that the horse that I am beating is most deadest. But if you listen to this segment, you'll have full clarity on why Hoke can no longer be supported. I've met a lot of really nice fry cooks that I would not vote for in a presidential election.

Never saw it posted, but in addition to this, I would suggest watching Meyer's interview with HBO's Real Sports. It is the first time he has opened up about his coaching downfall at Florida due to depression and over-exertion. I'm not saying I've completely changed my opinion of him (from negative to favorable) because I certainly believe he has many dickish tendencies, but the interview certainly puts some things in perspectives.

Columbus resident, listen to 97.1 the fan frequently including the Urban Meyer call in show. Urban Meyer doesnt sound like a smug politician. He sounds like a guy that spends 18 hours a day coaching up his Top 15 football team, who has to contractually come into a radio station and take stupid questions from fans.
Hoke has never been great with the media. Never. The guy is 2-4 and can't turn on the tv, radio or surf for porn like the rest of us without hearing about how much he sucks, or how soon he's getting fired. He's in a whirling tailspin nosedive. He's trying to figure out how to be Denzel Washington in that Flight movie. He blanked on the radio. Shit happens.

Moreover, I don't believe we would compromise our own integrity as a university by hiring someone of such poor character as head football coach. There's a standard at Michigan that many schools, such as OSU, do not hold themselves to. Not to mention, Bo would have never allowed it.
Urbz cheating on his wife was bad enough. But also while at Florida, he had no problem cutting guys low on the depth chart to free up scholarships. Plus, as shown by dozens of his players being arrested, he obviously had little concern with helping them grow as people or benefit from the life lessons that can come from football. And apparently he would turn a blind eye when guys on the team had positive drug tests.
A couple years ago, there was a USA Today article quoting a former Florida player regarding Meyer, saying "he's a great coach. He gets players to do things you never thought you could do. But he's a bad person." ...pretty bold statement.

It's one thing to acknowledge Meyer's football acumen and winning record. However, as someone that has a strong influence on the kids he looks over, the man absolutely deserves to be called out and scathed for his ethical negligences.
That's enough for this rant.

Did the University of Michigan maintain that high standard in its handling of the stain that was the Gibbons episode? I'm not defending Meyer, just sayin' your Michigan pedestal is a tad high.

Don't worry about being down voted. You can praise Hitler as long as you run down Hoke in the same OP, and you'll do okay.

Okay, so Urb is smart and articulate. That still leaves him light years behind people like George Allen, Paul Brown, Vince Lombardi or John Wooden. These coaches had a philosophy of life, a comprehensive sense of reality, a worldview that was fully integrated with their actions as winning coaches.
As a counselor and instructor, I study this. From what I've observed, John Harbaugh has that quality. If you take some time to listen and read his statements, you'll see why he is a perfect fit for Michigan, and you would not want to settle for less.

Urban is another coach who has the worst character and will do anything to win. I just don't believe he cares about anyone but himself. If he had been hired by Michigan I would have had a fit. I worry that Michigan's desperation may lead them to hire an awful person as the next coach. I really hope that doesn't happen and that Michigan's next coach has good character.

We need to be honest and objective and put away the Maize & Blue/Michigan Man goggles/b.s.; Hoke sounds like a cross between Fred Flintstone & Gomer Pyle, but with a closed head injury ("Well....."). So most every other coach in America sounds like a great orator in comparison. Even in Hoke's first year, I use to cringe when he spoke during pressers and other interviews. And lastly, compare his mediocre pre-Michigan record to Urban's pre-Florida/OSU record - enough said.

At the B1G kickoff luncheon in Chicago, one of the Nebraska beat writers noted that Urban Meyer never looked up from his cell phone during the entirety of Ameer Abdullah's speech.
Or maybe he just relates better to Androids?
