After two weeks who do you think wins the BIG?

Submitted by Brandon_L on
After the embarrassment of Saturday overall, the BIG seems to be reeling nationally. I have had the opportunity to see just about every big ten team play over the last few weeks and it doesn't seem like there is a real runaway threat to win the BIG ten this year. With the opportunity of a playoff spot for the big likely out of the question, who has the best opportunity to win the BIG Ten? The variables I am looking at are schedules, injuries to key players, who has looked the part and so far I don't believe anyone stands out. Lastly, does anyone believe that Michigan has a chance? My personal opinion is that the conference is wide open on both sides. I think the next few games for Michigan will tell us how much heart this team has. If we can do to Miami OHio what we did to App State the team will have a shot at putting the Notre Dame loss to bed. I think michigan has a shot at the east if they can get past Penn State without anymore losses I think a loss to Michigan State will not kill our shot at the east, but a loss will certainly mean Michigan needs to beat OHio State in Columbus. Now this is obviously hyperbole and everything needs to set us perfectly for Michigan to win the east. The other reality is this team could just lay down and quit on the coaches and end up 6-6 or worse. I know we are all on the edge of the cliff with this staff and ready to jump, but there still is hope abut there that we could hypothetically make it to the Big ten title and have a shot to win.

Anyone not picking MSU is in complete denial.

They are the only semi complete team in the conference.

Cook threw for nearly 350 yards.  He is being mocked late 1st round to mid 2nd round.  After Mariota and Winston he is the next class of QBs in the draft with the guys like Hundley.  Don't believe me - go check CBS mock draft, WalterFootball.com etc.  Lack of mobility? Guy throws on the run better than he throws in the pocket - his knee was also almost destroyed last week in their first game.  Their OL is not as good as last year - their defense went down from "one of the best in the past decade" to just "top 15 in the nation".

We lost 39-7 AT HOME less than 10 years ago to that type of Oregon team when Oregon had a worse defense and the offense system was not as advanced as it is now.   And you are hating on a MSU team that had a halftime lead on Oregon in their place with the #1 or #2 overall NFL draft pick at QB?  Dennis Dixon wasnt the 1st overall pick.

They also have the best coaching staff in the conference, or if you are a hater second best after OSU.  They fix things that are broken unlike some staffs from week to week.

They are going to have a week or two they look like buffoons on offense this year - as every team does - but their defense is still imposing and will keep them in every game.  And versus Big 10 competition it will dominate even if it would get lit up by Texas A&M or Oregon.  Guess what, there is no Texas A&M or Oregon in the Big 10.

This is not based on "2 games" this year either - look at their body of work the past half decade.  THREE 11+ win seasons.  The year they sucked their OL was horrid and their QB was weak minded.  They now have a high NFL draft pick at QB.  Who has thrown for 300+ v Oregon, Stanford, OSU in 3 of the past 4 games.  All those defenses don't "suck".

Wisconsin?  The team that lost its entire front 7 then proceeded to lose its 2 best DL players v LSU?  The one that is using a safety as a QB?  Yes huge threat to MSU.  Not.

If they lost any Big 10 game it would be considered a massive upset.  Anyone thinking UM is going in there and getting an upset is absolute loony tunes.  We cannot beat modest teams on the road - that is a top 10 team in the nation and they will be ranked #5-#7 most likely by the end of the year and potentially higher if the teams ahead of them beat up on each other in REAL conferences.  Fergodsakes people wake up.

It is Michigan State by a wide margin. Even in defeat they look like they have a sound game plan that players and coaches buy into. Playing in a hostile environment across the country they still looked good in losing to a very good team!
