What's the MBB negative recuiting pitch now?

Submitted by Blazefire on

This is something that crossed my mind when I saw that Thornton will visit Kentucky. A guy like Calipari probably has no qualms with negative recruiting, but what would he say? We've got a red hot coaching staff committed to stay together till '19, world class facilities, world class academics, great NBA opportunities, and incredible fans/students/alumni. So what does the guy say?

1) Sure, they're great with development, but you're already Elite. We won't ask you to work.

2) He's only had 5back-to-back tourney teams. That's not THAT many.

I can't think of any.

We will hook you up with chicks, cars and you don't have to go to class. At michigan, you get uglier chicks (not as willing), no ride, and you have to go to class. BTW, they seem to have been keeping kids a year longer, so less NBA ca$h.

That would be my anti michigan pitch.

Unlike at Michigan, at Kentucky, you won’t have to go to class, because we allow all of your courses to be taken online.  Here’s your course list for first semester, the one semester when you’ll have to pass your courses in order to retain your eligibility:
  • Introduction to Spelling
  • Introduction to Swelling
  • Introduction to Smelling
  • Introduction to Introductions
Here’s your course list for second semester when you won’t be required to pass your courses:
  • Outro-duction to Spelling
  • Outro-duction  to Swelling
  • Outro-duction to Smelling
  • Outro-duction to Introductions

2019 seems like a long ways away, but for a 2016 recruit, it would fall within their career. So it's possible they could recruit negatively about Beiliens age and whether he would still be coach.

It does seem so far off and I guess for a star athlete it wouldn't matter if they think they will be going pro prior to 2019. Each year it will be more relevant and will be used by other teams for negative recruiting. I'm sure Beilein is already setting the stage of how important his assistants are to the success of the program.

It's the same pitch Bama does. We get you paid and you're a god on campus and look in your locker you might find keys to the new Camaro or Charger in there for a 1 year test drive and 30K for books.

You think Calipari has to negative recruit as hard as he used to? It's Kentucky. It makes quite an impression on a recruit when the entire state already knows who he is before he's even committed.
