OTish: Let's have an NFL Draft thread

Submitted by Erik_in_Dayton on

What are people's thoughts on the draft?  Who do you want your team to draft? Here are some random thoughts:

Teddy Bridgewater: Someone will get a steal if Teddy Bridgewater falls into the second round IMHO.  His pro day was appparently really bad, but he showed in games that he moves very well, can throw on the run, and is accurate.  I don't see how you can put one day in front of a career of good work.

Lewan:  Most people seem to have him pegged as the third tackle and a 10-20 pick, but there are also apparently a few people who have him as the first tackle.  This is yet again a draft largely bereft of Michigan players, so it would be nice to see him go high.

Clowney:  I sympathize with the fact that he had to either play at South Carolina last year or sit because he was barred from entering the draft last year.  I also saw a lot of plays from him last year in which he did almost nothing, and he's been refusing workouts requested by teams during the draft run-up.  I would be very hesitant to take a guy whose effort I questioned with a high pick.

Khalil Mack: He was the best player on the field when Buffalo played OSU last year, with 2.5 sacks and a 45 yard INT return for a touchdown.  He produced all four years that he played, finishing tied for the NCAA career mark in TFL and first in forced fumbles.  I'd probably take him over Clowney.

for slacking during the season. I can't in good faith bash the NCAA and NFL for its stupid rules about player age limits, and then judge a person making a very smart business decision as having bad work ethic. The guy is the best player in the draft, and is smart.

The lions need "a lot" of help at wr??? Hmm they have the best wr on the planet. Golden Tate isn't a number 1 but he's a pretty good player. They don't have anything better than average after that but do they need A lot of help really ? How many teams have 3 really good wr's??? Denver had 3 stars at wr and they lost by 80 in the SB! This draft is loaded at receiver.... Keep improving the defense. They seem to be doing a little better at evaluating talent in the later rounds. So they can't get their wr later.screw Watkins .

They were great against the run, redzone defense and 3rd down defense. All key characteristics of a good defense.

It's the Lions offense that let the team down more than the defense. It's the defense that pretty much kept them in the game.  Lions need more talent at WR because the depth chart beyond CJ and Tate is a crater.

If Calvin goes down they are in trouble no matter who they draft. Rookie wr's don't exactly come into the league and tear it up. Seattle won the Super Bowl with Tate who we have now, Doug Baldwin and the great Jermaine Krause. Their superstar wr Harvin was hurt and a non factor. Pittsburgh never had great wr's. Baltimore had anquan bolden You can have all the weapons in the world, Denver... Run into a monster defense it won't matter. I'm tired of the lions logic of getting all the weapons for Stafford. Get me some dudes that makes plays on defense.

If you take away CJ even with Tate manning the #1 spot, Lions WR group is easily the worst in the league. There is a need of a talent upgrade at WR.  Last year, Lions WRs outside of CJ struggled because they could not separate from DBs. Watch the game when CJ was out with a knee injury, Stafford had no one to throw the ball to beside Bell/Bush and had to force throws just to fit in the tight windows.  Joe Lombardi's offense will feature 3-4 WR set a ton so lining up Durham on the field at a regular basis is not a good option which is why WR is the team's #1 need IMO.

Lions defense, believe it or not, is the least of my concern. The offense concerns me more because of their inability to close the deal or score TDs at any point in the game.  Yes it starts with Stafford, but let's not pretend that WR isn't the team's big needs.
