I mean the Clippers were a joke before Blake Griffin and CP3 and he did just  fine finacially so I don't think he HAS to sell from that perspective.  He was subject to the largest fine in history for housing discrimination.  Check out his quotables: http://deadspin.com/your-complete-quotable-guide-to-decades-of-donald-s…

Pretty damning stuff going back the 80s.

What's going to be pretty interesting is how this divorce plays out with regard to ownership of the team ala the McCourts and the Dodgers.

That's why he owns them (the Clippers). I use this (extreme) anaology again. Slave owners had "girlfriends" that were black. Slave owners even lived and socalized with some of their slaves. But they were still slave owners, still racist, etc.

Sterling owns a team in a league made up of primarily people of color as you say, he dated a girl who is of color (half black and mexican according to her)...but that still doesn't mean he can't be a racist (not saying you think he isn't).

It's confusing as hell...but it's just like when you hear people say "I'm not racist, I have friends that are black." It doesn't mean anything.

And maybe we're using the terms incorrectly, but it doesn't mean these poeple aren't something that is horribly wrong and offensive...whatever the word is.

...that if his team didn't play games, he could be fined until he was eventually voted out by the owners.

Not sure if that's true, also, not sure what happens to the players (who obviously want to play, collect their paychecks, etc.)

His history isn't one of a guy who's going to go quietly though. He's likely going to dump some major money into the courtroom unless the NBA has some VERY clear rules where owners can vote another owner out of the league and force him to sell.

I mean, how can Sterling say "Don't bring blacks to the game" and own a business that fields the product below? Is he blind?

Easy.  Don't forget his creepy "beautiful black bodies" comment.  It's no sweat for him to have black people working for him because in his mind he owns them.  He doesn't have to put them on his level.

I don't know...that's the question everyone is trying to find out.

What if he murdered someone? Technically he still owns the team just like you'd own your car. He'd be in jail, but as long as he still had enough money, he could still own his "car."

There has to be something in the by-laws about league image and "in the best interest of the league." But maybe not...I guess we'll find out.

The NBA owner by laws are confidential but from what I've heard and read, short of not being able to meet the payroll, the NBA won't take away a team. Owners would be reluctant at the precedent it would set also. They really can't do much.

Like i said, if this divorce plays out, that's where it gets interesting if his wife tries to take half the team.

Cognitive dissonance when discussing his perception of Black people. He was just the first idiot to expose his distorted view of people and color! Players need to aggregate their resources and develop another league! NBA needs competition!

He got negged to shit because he didn't get the joke and called the two guys ignorant for no reason...neg someone that many times on this board and they're bound to spend the next 15 minutes negging every single post in the thread.

But who cares...points don't matter anymore. Appreciate you clearing it up for whatever it's worth, but I'm just enjoying the discussion. I'm surprised and actually kind of proud in a (I know that sounds arrogant, but I don't want it to) kind of way.

Usually threads like this die quickly because of some asshole, but there's been some really good discussion in this thread. One of the better ones that we've had in quite some time.

I'm happy to hear that apparently Jamal Crawford (along with Matt Barnes) was the driving force behind this protest. I've always had a lot of love for that guy. He got absolutely fucked over and short changed by the NCAA. Had he not gotten shafted, we'd be reveling him as one of the all time greats.

So many people here deny him, but he is a proud representative of the university (even if they refuse to acknowledge him) and loves U of M basketball. He is also a great representative of the black community. He is a great philanthropist and puts not only his money, but even more so his time into improving communities.

He is U of M through and through and I hope we recognize him and all of his accomplishments at some point.
