Voort with the save. 1:28 to go on Minnesota's PP
Yay, PK!
3:25 to go
Nothing.
Guptill reminds me a lot of Merrill in how he handles the puck. Normally they can both saunter around and body and/or stick handle around most people but they tend to get their pocket picked a lot.
Softly threw the puck at Shibrowki to get him to freeze it which enabled Janecyk to get in the game.
1:32 to go
1:32 left, Janecyk in.
Thaaank youuuuu
First time since February 28, 1998 that Michigan has beat a #1 team at Yost. Last time we beat a #1 team was North Dakota in that 98 season. We later saw them in the regionals where we famously beat them en route to a national title
Copp intentionally stops play to allow senior Adam Janecyk into the game. Cool move.
Minnesota penalty. This one's over
Even if Minnesota did kind of help us out getting it; it looks the same on paper. This should give us a nice boost in RPI/PWR. Go blue!
Hope to see this kind of effort in the BTT.
#11 NoDak down 1-2 to CC
#13 Minnesota State tied 2-2 with Northern
#12 Cornell lost 1-4 to Clarkson
#14 Vermont going to OT with #7 UML
#15 Colgate beat St. Lawrence 4-3
--#16 Michigan--
#17 Northeastern tied 4-4 with #19 UNH
#18 Yale lost 3-5 to #6 Qunnipiac
If a lot of these games hold we may move up significantly
There are still quite a few games left, but for now that win pushed us up to 12th,

RPI hasn't updated on USCHO but they're going to take a hit.
Cornell dropped to #17 after their loss. Michigan at #13 right now, we may get in front of NoDak here.
Minnesota State still in OT with Northern
Edit: #16 Minnesota State wins in OT. They'll sneak up us but likely not pass us
Edit edit: Michigan slides back up to #12 with NoDak's loss
Great win! Nice way to send out the seniors, and definitely helps with securing a bid.
wilcox may have sat, but as far as I know, minnesota's offense didn't sit.
In Michigan's last three wins over the gophers, they have scored 6 goals. Two of the wins, minnesota was ranked #1.
Michigan got what they absolutely needed. Now I think a win over penn state gets them in, and should they win that game, a win over wisconsin (certainly doable) would have them as lock.
I facepalmed when Pletsch said Michigan would 5th in the PWR right now, had they not lost two to penn state and blown the game last Saturday.
Michigan faces penn state at 3pm on BTN, Thursday. Hopefully the NCAA Basketball Tournament doesn't conflict with the B1G Hockey Tournament.

Back from the game. Love the coverage on the blog. It was the most amaizing game in just about every way. Even better than the 7-1 thrashing of Sparty. Crowd was into it. Band was into it. Team played with intensity through the whole game. I love the senior night thing too.
A win over the Gophers should do a lot to help us get in the tournament. We probably need a win Thursday against PSU to get us because a loss will drop us. A win against Wisconsin would make us a lock but I think wins against Wisconsin and a conference tourney championship would help with seeding but not needed for an at large berth.
I'm not surprised what was said above about where we would be in PWR without the losses to PSU and Sparty. Losses against stinky teams are the kiss of death. Losses against good teams don't hurt much and wins against stinky teams don't help much.

This makes me a little bit sad:
Adam Janecyk @ajanny30 12h Last experience at yost tonight, thanks for all the support..even the bloggers that bashed on me, I know you didn't mean it #seniornight

because I've never seen anything poor written of him here

Michigan helped themselves out a lot tonight. We'd be fairly comfortably in if the season ended this second. Need need need to beat PSU next weekend.
It was noted above but just winning the two PSU games and holding against MSU probably means we'd be comfortably in the top 6-8 teams right now but nothing we can do to change that now.
Bubble watch:
Team | Change | Result | |
---|---|---|---|
#11 | Vermont | +3 | W |
#12 | Michigan | +4 | W |
#13 | Minnesota State | - | W |
#14 | Northeastern | +3 | W |
#15 | North Dakota | -4 | L |
#16 | Colgate | -1 | W |
#17 | Cornell | -5 | L |
North Dakota and Cornell put themselves on the outside looking in with bad losses for each.

Michigan Tech loses 5-2 to Bowling Green. They finish under .500 for the 7th year in a row.

It was an up and down year. They got close to .500 a few times, but couldn't get over the hump.
The sad part is that MTU hasn't been .500 since the first few games of last year. Two full seasons for Tech with a losing record almost the entire way through.
