John Bacon - UM regents discussing contract extension for Warde

None of us know anything of course, and Bacon doesn’t seem to be plugged in as he used to be with the program. But if there is any truth here it seems there might be a battle between the old guard and new in respect to NIL and how the football program adapts to the changing landscape of college football:

In other news, Bacon ran a poll on his Twitter asking who would support a contract extension (which I believe ends in 2025), and with almost 10,000 votes in 4 hours the results are approaching a landslide…

People blame Warde for Harbaugh leaving, which I don't think is entirely fair, and that's probably why the X poll is ~93% no extension to 7% extension.

My major concern is that Warde has shown he will not modernize the athletic department with the changing college athletics landscape. That, to me, is far more alarming.

Michigan just won the national championship with the "least talented" roster of the CFP era. That will be exceedingly difficult to do again without top-tier coaching. You have to get some 5 stars on your roster if you want to consistently win titles.

Yes, identifying cultures fits and coaching up these young men are important, but if we want to sniff a national championship again then we're likely going to have to change our approach, or be relegated to the middle of the pack in the new Big Ten.

Since I refuse to join the cesspool now known as X, what are the current voting totals?  If ever there was a reason to create multiple accounts so I could vote NO on the contract extension more than once, this would be it.

If he gets an extension, that means the Regents are happy with mediocrity and an occasional lightning bolt like this past football season.  They will tell all of us they don't care if we compete for championships, as long as we do everything the "Right Way"-for 1985.

I hear the proposed extension includes all the fresh frogs he wants...

Perhaps the UM Board of Regents needs to hear from the fan base about a potential Warde extension.  If I am not mistaken, two UM board of regents members  would normally be up for re-election this year: Ron Weisner and Denise Ilitch.  Correct me if I am wrong, but  assume that would be in Nov 2024.  They could be the first (but not the last) to be held responsible for Warde's extension, if it occurs.

All the Warde hate has always seemed weird to me. People have always been looking for a reason to not want him here since he started. And if Jim Harbaugh, who we all expected to leave eventually the day he signed, going to the NFL is your main contention you need crazy pills.

Umm, that might be the most click-bait title in Mgoblog history.  The mild supporters vs the adamant objectors.
Warde was handed a great coaching roster and it’s significantly worse at this point. Maybe the rebound will prove his competency.
