I have no problem with his decision and wish him nothing but the best, but I fail to see how this is a hard decision for him. By staying he gets to hang with his teammates for a few more weeks, get the CFB swag and memories plus maybe get the ultimate swag, a championship ring. If I was in his shoes and knew I was only going to play scout team and never get an actual game snap, I’d still make this call alll day, every day. It’s not a heroic call; it’s an obvious call.

I think Harbaugh and staff are the ones who deserve the credit for allowing him to do this. It shows that they are interested in what is best for the player. Playing out the year and then transferring is the “having his cake and eating it too”/best case scenario for CJ and the staff is giving him that. I’m sure CJ has friends and they’ll like having him around, but his benefit to the team the next few weeks is minimal. The staff is allowing him to stay because it’s good for him and the nice thing to do. Good for the staff and good for CJ.

If he left now he could probably more easily enroll at his next school for spring semester and participate in spring practice there. Not saying it’s impossible to transfer after January 8th, but a lot of schools will be starting their semester with a relatively tight deadline to get enrolled for the term.

This was on Reddit last week.  Surprised it wasn't here earlier.  I think it is a testament to Jim Harbaugh that he's letting CJ participate and be a part of the team.

Good for him.

Classic example of the portal working to everyone's benefit. Stokes isn't mad at the team and they're not mad at him; he just doesn't have a lane to significant playing time. The best thing for him is to go to the portal and find a place where he can get snaps. He does so with a significant (or complete) Michigan education and priceless memories. Michigan benefits from the time he spent here and gets a scholarship to use on someone else.

Harbaugh has recruited for this sort of thing since he got here, very much a "right with the times" philosophy that means people will transfer every year and there's nothing wrong with that.

Stokes is a Michigan man, gave it his all, and now he gets to go somewhere and play. But he's sticking around and he has earned the right to have a chance to win a championship with this team before he goes.

Everyone wins. This is how it should be.

(Also, remember that even when guys leave in a huff, they contributed and should be recognized that way. The "favorite non-OSU play" post a few days ago resulted in basically universal agreement that Cade-to-All at PSU in 2021 was a top non-OSU play, and both those guys left under sup-optimal circumstances. But what they brought the program live on, and they deserve all the plaudits we can give them for it).

Really wish that he would withdraw from the portal. He’s a really good kid. I’d like to see him at least earn his degree before moving on so that he has something to fall back on.

Way to go young man! Hope he lands somewhere that he can be utilized. I was so glad when he signed because he's from close to me in Columbia, SC. Would love to see him come back home but USC (NTUSC) already has 3 portal transfer RB's and I doubt he would go to Clemson unless he wants to sit the bench there too. Good luck and hopefully UM is able to get a good lead and you're able to get some game time.
