OT: Miami's Mario Cristobal Makes the Worst Coaching Error in History

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on October 7th, 2023 at 11:44 PM

Up by 3 on Georgia Tech with less than 40 seconds left and Miami had the ball. He only needed to take a knee and run the clock out. Instead, Cristobal calls a run play, the guy fumbles, Georgia Tech gets the ball back and a couple plays later scores a touchdown.

Worst coaching mistake ever.

One of the more overrated coaches in college football.  He can take a school with a ton of resources and some luck from "meh" to good but he did the same dumb stuff at Oregon and Miami continues to look sorta mediocre under him.

Not only did they NOT go into V formation they let the receiver get behind them on the last play. Just a total blackout by the whole staff.

The whole thing made Lincoln Riley blush.

Stupid is as stupid does.   Ouch.  Don't know if that's the worst ever, but it surely makes this year's Top 10 Stupid Coaching Moments, brought to you by Notre Dame Football

I'm reminded of the Tate Forcier win vs. ND.  Michigan is out of time outs, ND has the ball with about 2 minutes left.  All they have to do is run three times and stay in bounds.  Charlie Weiss calls three straight passes, all incomplete.  MI gets the ball with time to drive and win.  Truly an Xs and Os advantage!
