That’s a civil thing. They could easily go after him personally (guilty conviction) but they’ll likely blame the university (can actually pay). Could be a good settlement if they wanted it. Could just let it go. It’s likely the university will give them a 6-figure offer as it’ll cost that much to fight it and part of that will be to not take blame or have any future liability.

Mars Comin’ and he will be suing all parties.  It ain’t over for the so called “tunnel eight”, MSU, and I’ll be looking forward to having Dantonio called as a material witness when it comes time to establish patterns of behavior.

They lost some recruits after the incident. I hope those losses were in part due to the bad publicity that resulted afterward. From Mel raging and hurling F-bombs over a correct reversal call to cowardly players putting a gang beat down on a vulnerable rival, it was not a good look for Sparty that evening.

I think all the other guys got appropriate charges; this guy assaulted a defenseless person (in the head) with a deadly weapon. He should face a felony charge, and he should have been expelled.

A complete and utter joke to maliciously assault someone with a weapon that could have killed someone, and did in fact cause a brain injury and walk away with a misdemeanor and still be at the school and only suspended from the team. Guarantee he and everyone else will be brought back. Like I said what a joke, but hey we live in a soceity now where some people think the slightest bit of disrespect real or perceived warrants escalation to violence. MSU has truly learned nothing from this and I honestly will be worried about the safety of UM players when they see these guys until they get the lesson that needs to be learned through their heads.

Props due to our fellow poster and seeming mgolawyer "XM- numbers" (sorry don't actually remember the right numbers lol). If I'm not mistaken he cited pleading down and Holmes act as most likely outcome for everyone.

No remorse. No apology. Serious question, am I the only one who doesn’t understand why the person assaulting a defenseless person with a weapon is going to be reinstated? How is this acceptable? MSU is a joke and by essentially getting a slap on the wrist, is going to continue doing this petty crap. I truly believe and wish MSU and UM should stop playing all together. The game isn’t any fun when pure hatred overcomes the game.

Yeah honestly some seem to be downplaying what actually occured here. It was assault with a weapon that could have killed someone and did in fact cause a concussion. There are people sitting in prison for 10+ years who killed someone with a punch and this guy gets a misdemeanor for swinging a weapon at someone's head multiple times and  will likely be reinstated honestly. He should have been immediately kicked off the team if not expelled completely after all the videos were seen.

Everything about MSU's conduct and statements  indicates they have learned nothing from this and honestly UM players should not feel comfortable playing these guys until they do. And the lack of real consequences will certainly not help them learn any lesson. I don't think I have seen anyone from MSU acknowledge that this is a overall cultural problem of hatred for UM that has reached ridiculous levels that needs to be dialed down. They all think or are rationalizing it as a one off when it is clearly not.

Exactly. There's now an actual assault on the record. MSU is irrelevant on their side because they will never do anything in that vein.

But the u of m should recognize that the acrimony between these two teams all but guarantees these two teams can't meet on the same field without shit happening. Putting their own team's players in these games will inevitably result in more violence against wolverines. If the U of M administration won't take steps, I'm going to laugh when they get punished for their negligence. Who could have seen a second assault coming?!?

This is probably fair. Sounds like assault is now a part of his record.

It would be nice if it came with a statement that said “what I did was wrong and dangerous”

Wait I was told the charges were excessive and the DA was trying to ruin player’s lives. Even heard it from a bunch of Michigan “content creators”

At this point I’ve just moved on from the whole thing. Whatever happens from here, it is what it is.

I hope Green and his family get the justice they’re looking for in civil court, but otherwise I personally am ready to just put this whole incident to bed.

MSU just is what it is. They are who they are. Dantonio is gone but his fingerprints and culture are still all over that program, and that’s honestly what they all want, whether they admit it or not. I fully expect more shenanigans next year. Especially since the game is in EL and MSU will be using the incident last year as a reason to feel “slighted and disrespected.”

Has the police report been released (through FOIA or otherwise)?  You would think FREEP and the LSJ would have obtained it by now.  It’s hard to evaluate the propriety of a plea deal without knowing the facts. I would be most interested in witness statements, to include victim-witness statements.
