So Do We Play TCU No Matter What?

Submitted by Steve Breaston… on December 3rd, 2022 at 12:48 AM

Assume with USC’s loss, OSU is in at four. A Michigan win and a TCU loss likely doesn’t drop TCU behind OSU given their SOS this season. A Michigan loss and a TCU win means they flip flop, as they likely wouldn’t pair OSU against Michigan in the semis (the rematch in the championship is a tv ratings dream). Both teams lose and I think they stay put, with OSU sliding in at four.

Jack Herer is telling my brain that this makes sense, but tell me what I’m missing.

Losing to OSU in the playoffs would be the ultimate Super Saiyan final form dong punch of the millennium. My children's children would cry out in infinite pain and I will fall into eternal BPONE.

It's not really bowing down though. We already beat them. Badly. In their house. This isn't baseball we don't need a series. Plus if we lose they get the championship despite splitting the "series" which is total crap.

If you play any team enough times, you will lose. Hell, make us play 100 games against Western Michigan. We'll probably lose 1 of the 100.

We proved we're better than Ohio, but there's a much greater than 0% chance that we lose if we play them again.

The only way we don't play TCU in semis is a Georgia loss and it very well could happen. This is not the same Georgia as last year. Georgia set a record this year with 15 players selected in the NFL draft. I believe this Georgia team is grossly overrated. It is nearly impossible to repeat with that kind of turn-over in talent. The SEC is way down this year and this has hid Georgia's inferiority. OSU will best Georgia by two touchdowns if they play in semis.

If Georgia loses - would they drop below a #4 osu? Prob not. I think that would be the chaos ranking situation.

UM 1

TCU 2

Georgia 3

OSU 4

If TCU and Georgia both lose, Michigan would likely get Alabama.

1. Michigan

2. Georgia

3. Ohio St

4. Alabama

I don't think Strength of schedule would save TCU as they would have lost 9-3 team on a neutral field.

I also think this is a possibility if TCU gets stomped, although an unlikely possibility...

Good lord the CFP would love this scenario.  Ratings for all 3 games would be through the roof.  Disney (owners of ESPN) just replaced their CEO and the company has made a mess of some of their IPs.  Disney would love the extra TV $$$ from this dream scenario.

Ironically the one variable that could put OSU out is a Michigan loss tonight.   Makes OSUs loss look worse and gives the committee the only data point possible for them to slide in Alabama

The OSU zombie can stay dead.  And for all I care, UGA can have the honors this time.

But honestly,, this is the new reality that we will have to be living in, where The Game is no longer as important as it used to be.  We are now in the reality where to win a national championship, we could possibly have to beat them three freaking times.

There are numerous scenarios where we could play OSU.

And I don’t want any of them to happen.

Right now we have a full year of gloating ahead of us. A full year of getting to talk about how we’ve passed them. A full year where they believe there’s something wrong with their program.

If we rematch them, and they win (which would be a possibility with Corum out and them getting JSN back) … that all goes away.

Screw that. They deserve to feel inferior for a full 365 days.

I don't know, i mean, TCU strength of schedule? If they lose what is the strength that keeps them in above Alabama?

GA will crush ohio state and they will have to live with two blow out losses to end their season.

they would be a much tougher match up for us, simply because they are playing for revenge.  I think we win, but I don't like the thought of an immediate rematch, I'd much rather they stew on it for a year and we beat their ass for a 3rd straight season in A2 next year.

We should take care of business with TCU and set up a rematch against GA for the NC.... I like our chances...  what we didn't have last year was a QB that could escape pressure and make plays with his legs, that truly would have been a game changer last year.  It will be this year.

GO BLUE.... beat Purdue.... and then onward!
