BREAKING NEWS Here from LSUODYSSEY.COM:

We can confirm Oklahoma Head Coach Lincoln Riley is expected to accept LSU's offer to become their next Head Coach at the conclusion of OU's season.

The contract should make Lincoln the highest paid coach in college football, between $12-13 million annually.

We aren't sure about the length but it's believed both parties negotiated a stable, long term commitment in excess of 3 seasons.

No word on a time table for future official announcement.

That is all we know at this time.

These ever escalating salaries are in part a result of the changes in CFB organization over the last 20 years.

This is what happens when CFB moved from a system that produced many programs that could feel like they had a successful fun season, to a system where all but four schools are relegated to loser status.  If you failed to make the playoff, you missed the mark.

A system where there are many winners is a system where player talent spreads more evenly, where many schools can feel like they had a successful/fun season, and where there are many coaches that are considered successful.

A system where there are only four school per year that feel like they hit the mark, with the rest in the 'missed the mark' category, is s system where talent concentrates in the few schools that can make the playoff, and the price for the next coach that might get you into the elite four get bid up and up...

10 years from now, $40-50M/yr will be the norm.  To coach a football team.

Bo was making $100k early on and turned down around $400k from TAMU to stay at UM.  Those days are long gone.

Sickening to think about…
