Are we still thinking we can't recruit DTs?  Did we already forget that we just picked up Rooks & Benny in the last cycle?

DT is just a position you need to recruit every year.

Don't disagree, but doesn't apply to every position?  We also nailed down two supposedly elite DT recruits in Mazi & Hinton and we're still waiting for that to pay off.  Don't get me wrong, all good recruiting news is welcomed, but the tone of the post kinda sounds like it's the answer to our DT problem, and I'm just easing in the voice of reason.  We've recruited a fair number of them in Solomon, Jeter, Smith, Hinton, Pea, Dwumfor, Rooks, & Benny.  There were a few years where they were noticeably absent in 2018 and 2020.  Hopefully that issue is gone now that Brown has moved on.  But, development and IDing the right ones seem just as much the issue as recruiting the bodies was.

I prefer we overload DT and underload wr, so the wr get playing time and don't leave.  We lost McDoom, Crawford, the iowa kid, and now Worthy.

I do agree that DT is a more important position and we've not only under-recruited it (same with CB vs S), but Brown didn't like the big space eater types which I think costed us some games against the Wiscy types.  I agree with the overall context that we've probably signed more WRs in some classes than we needed.  There was never going to be a need for 4 elite WRs in the '17 class (DPJ, Nico, Black, & Martin).  At least one of those guys was going to leave for greener pastures.  But, that was not the situation with Worthy.  Worthy was the DPJ of his class, not the Martin.  We did not want to lose him.  He didn't leave because he didn't think he'd play.  That was all on the admissions department.  We wanted him and needed him.  We still have WR talent in Bell, Johnson, Henning, & Dixon (and Morris & Trent in the next cycle).  But, we also have DT talent on paper in Jeter, Hinton, Smith, Rooks, & Benny.  More is better, but at some point we also need to turn the talent into production.  Personally I think the time has already past Jeter and he simply is what he is...a big strong guy and plays too high and pushed off the ball.  But, it's make or break time for Hinton & Smith in year three.  Rooks and Benny will get a few years to develop, but they will need to be ready to be on the 2-deep as soon as either Hinton or Smith depart and the cycle keeps chugging along.  This is why we need elite recruiting, but we also need good coaches that can put them in good positions with scheme and play calling and to develop them.  OSU makes it look easy, but it's not.

A ball for us?  Well if that isn’t the kiss of death.  Recruit to spontaneous combust in 3...2...1...

he sure seemed like a good prospect tho.

This post is way too positive for our usual bpone peeps...so I’m gonna go ahead and say “I’ll get excited when he actually commits...oops, no, I’ll get excited when he actually signs...oops, nope, I’ll get excited when he shows up on campus...um no, that doesn’t work either...I’ll get excited when he actually plays a game for Michigan.

Ahh screw it’s, let’s fucking Go Blue!

I'm not saying he won't end up at Michigan but it's Sam Webb with a confidence level of 6... so... take that for whatever that means.

Does anyone have player-school biases for certain position groups? Like if LSU is interested in a DB I assume he's legit no matter the star rating. Maybe it's anecdotal but I feel that way with Auburn and interior DL.

For those of you old enough to remember The Steel Curtain, I liked his L.C. Greenwood style yellow shoes. Made it unnecessary to have him identified on film. I hope this isn't a situation where Michigan unearths a gem for another program. I think we need more kids who are hungry and driven to prove they should not have been overlooked.

Rankings are going to be all over the place this year with the COVID year.  Guys are going to move way up and down the rankings this summer and fall as real football kicks up again.

This dude has LEGIT film.  On top of that, all-state level wrestler at nearly 300 lbs.  EXACTLY what you want in a DT.  Big, but can also move, use leverage, use his hands, etc.  Most excited I've been about a predicition in a while.

Is there a certain number of DTs that we need to recruit so that this joke can die?    The fact that we managed to recruit a grand total of two actual DTs from 2018-2020 is clearly a huge problem, but we do have 3 DTs arriving in the fall.   We also already have 1 committed for 2022 (and the new defensive staff is clearly committed to recruiting more).

We are going toe to toe with UCF and East Carolina, I sure hope we can land him.

The program's similarities in the off-season continue to mimic RR's 2010 off-season.
