Luke Fickell accepts the L in the “Hudson Saga”

Submitted by MikeinTN on August 20th, 2019 at 2:09 PM

Fickell went on the sans-Bill C. PAPN podcast with noted MGo-Antagonist Steven Godfrey to discuss the transfer issue and started out by falsely stating that Harbaugh had “specifically singled out James Hudson” in his comments at Media Days presser. By 41:45 in the podcast he admits that his philosophy has changed and he agrees with what they’ve termed Harbaugh’s proposal as the “Mulligan Rule” allowing a one time transfer without penalty.

I didn’t see this posted already, but that’s how these things usually go with the charge of misconduct or unfairness amplified by the peanut gallery media and the resolution slipping away quietly if it doesn’t align with the initial characterization.

Thanks for posting.  I usually listen to PAPN (even post-Bill C.) but avoided that interview with Fickell because I just didn't want to listen to him.  Appreciate this bit of info.

Fickell comes across as just a lunkhead of a coach in the bits I heard; he got caught lying and then tried to tough guy his way out.

Also, PAPN was only a half-listen with Bill C. and it's practically unlistenable without him.  I wanted to give them a chance after the move, but Godfrey without some insightful commentary to balance him out is awful.  His show with the FSU recruiter guy (Bud Elliott) was lint-level navel gazing.

Had him cornered and backed off. Stopped just short of asking the simple question of...

"In your opinion, how could Harbaugh have helped? Name just 1 way or example, besides what Harbaugh actually says he did. "

First and last question that needed to be answered.

I liked John U Bacon’s take that this is Fickell auditioning for the MSU or OSU job should either become available in the near future. “He takes it to Harbaugh!”

Exactly that's why Fickell's been going on the offensive on this.. he knows he'll get the PR bump because the media will pick-up on any Harbaugh story and he knows Harbaugh is going to respond in public (IE: his tweets at MD, Kirby, and Saban when they said something about him) Fickell doesn't care if he looks like an idiot--shoot it may even endear him to the schools he hopes to get hired at one day.

As I've said before, I know a lot of the details about these transfers-- coaches are promising to get kids eligible to come to their school. I have no doubt that was a main selling point for Fickell... "come to UC and we'll get you playing right away." Well, no school can guarantee that and now Fickell has egg on his face.

Now that it's hinted at publically I can tell you that the main waiver folks are using to get guys eligible is the "run-off rule" That was the main part of Fields and Tate's waiver. UGA and OSU didn't fight back on the waiver claiming that the schools ran them off to make space on the roster. That's why Fickell called Harbaugh he was trying to get him to say that the position switch was involuntary by James and he was run-off from the team. Harbaugh didn't bite, because he wouldn't lie. Cincy was trying to amend it after getting the first waiver denied.

We'll never know--they did really like Hudson, but at some point, you need to keep the boat moving forward with guys who are all-in. Wish the kid luck and move forward with dudes that want to be here. I really think if Hudson leaves after the season instead of right in the middle of it we aren't talking about this as I think he'd be eligible.

Jim Harbaugh calls out James Hudson (in a passive-aggressive and cowardly way), Fickell says what everyone knows, Harbaugh is a bitch who chases players away, and Fickell takes the loss?

This was never about the transfer rules.  This was about Harbaugh being a dick who is red-assed over all the transfers so he took a cheap shot at a kid with issues.  Michigan fans are trying desperately to shift the narrative to 'transfer rules' so they don't have to deal with their coach being a giant chode.

I can’t imagine what it would take me to bother to take the time and effort monitor and read a rival team’s fan site, create an account on a rival team’s fan site and somehow still have the time and energy to attempt to troll them with a poorly written post. I envy your freetime and utter lack of purpose, sir.

Oh please.  Half of the fucking topics on this board pertain to Ohio State or Michigan State.  This board is flippin' obsessed.  Just scroll the list of topics, it is embarrassing. OSU this, OSU that...  You guys post things about MSU before they even hit the MSU boards.  It's sad.

I know OSU has spent the past 15 years beating your brains in and MSU squeezed your nuts like a stress ball for seven years but let it go.

People goof on you because you invite it.  That, and the fact that it is just funny as shit to watch a bunch of Walmart Wolverines stutter around for insults when you pick the scab on the 62-39 wound.

So angry!  So delusional!

To be fair, the board is obsessed with complaining about the OP or the missed item in the 25 point check list to make a Post on MGB.  Those posts dont have a whole lot of substance, just bitching about why it was posted or if it should be deleted.

Right, he said, "Now we have kids saying they have mental illness".

It was a cowardly swipe at a kid without having the balls to say his name.  He was clearly talking about one player.

He took a shot at the kid and and was a passive-aggressive chicken shit about it too...

Right, because he had the knowledge of what Fickell had told him Ryan Day and Nick Saban were willing to do. They lied and said they ran the kid off, so they could then lie and say they  were depressed. Harbaugh then stated we shouldn't be putting kids in this position ( to lie ). He didn't single out anybody. Get it, Turd Breath?
