M stays at 10 in AP poll

Cuse the new #1. Zona drops just one spot. Duke rises to 11 after the road loss at Cuse, which by the way, was the first time I've ever seen Duke get consistently jobbed by the officials. Home cooking won that game for the Orangemen.

Doesn't matter. Just win t least two of these next three games and they're still in a good position.

right, polls in bball don't matter all that much generally, but are a pretty good indication of where the committee will seed your team. we know that no unranked team is getting a sweet 16 seed, for instance. anyway, i just posted it to share information, not to evaluate its importance.

Oh I totally get it. My point is that some people (not saying you) make a big deal about basketball rankings. Well, they're not nearly as important as football rankings. It doesn't happen often, but it's possible to be a low seed and still win the title, which is the beauty of a playoff such as the NCAA tournament.

in bball is guaranteed to crap the bed once or twice a year - basically inevitable, IMO.
Hopefully we don't do it again the rest of the year and bring home the regular season championship

Correct. While having a long run in the tournament is nice, it's always nice to have a conference title and another banner to hang in the arena.

Big Ten teams lose and stay in the same position. I feel as if it is very SECish.
February 3rd, 2014 at 12:56 PM ^
It also helps that everybody else around them in the rankings lost as well. So I feel it's a combination of some SECish ranking going on as well as some timely losses by other teams.

Big Ten distributed as follows:
9) Michigan State
10) Michigan, as noted
17) Iowa
Wisconsin and Ohio State would probably be in the 26-30 range if the poll actually officially went that far - that would be my guess anyway. Last week, Michigan was ranked as high as #4 and as low as #22, so a wide and varied opinion of Michigan exists. This week's distribution of votes is likely similar then.

where we're 15th, with OSU at 16? What's up with that?

I'm a little surprised that Yogi Ferrell didn't get a single vote in the AP poll this week.

It was like an Elite 8 game in February both in talent and atmosphere

This basketball season seems really out of whack to me. Last year, the Big Ten was clearly the best conference with many future NBA draft picks. I keep hearing that this years draft class is suppossed to be the best ever, yet the results on the floor don't seem to validate it. Who should be the best team in the Nation? Is it clear?
I love that "everyone" has a chance but miss the Dynasty you can't stand see win it all. The Duke teams who eventually got run by UNLV come to mind.

if they had remained healthy all year to this point MSU may have been regarded as the best team in the country. Right now it is hard to argue with Cuse.

I missed the IU game and dont have it in me to sort through the snowflakes, but I heard Lavert was a bit of a ball hog that game. I noticed he wasnt looking to pass in the Purdue win and found it interesting (if true) if that continued this game. Can anyone confirm this was the case?
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:26 PM ^
It didn't help Stauskas wasn't able to get open much against IU. Caris held the ball a bit, but it didn't seem egregious given how disjointed the offense looked all day.
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:01 PM ^
Beilein has stated that Caris role is to iso and break his man down off the dribble if no one else can find their offense. No one could find their offense so he stepped up when no one else could or wanted to counter Indiana.
