MGoFlint Helmet
So UM Flint's club football team has a facebook page and I was on it ("why?", you ask. I'm not sure).
And found this dated Jan 21st of this year:
with the quote "new helmet design approved by Ann Arbor"
Looks like they're going to use it moving ahead. I think it's pretty awesome. Go Flint Kodiaks!
All the Facebook comments about "Kodiak identity..."
You're a satellite campus of the University of Michigan. What's "Kodiak identity?"
I would assume trying to idenfity more as Michigan-Flint and not just a satellite campus of UofM (like a Minnesota-Duluth or a Wisconsin-White Water). Given, they aren't exactly breaking new ground with this helmet design but it'd be cool to see the school form its own identity apart from UofM
removing 2 of 3 stripes is hardly independence. more like: "I wanna be like you but only deserve 1/3 of the stripes!" /tatersgonnatate
Flint is a very self-aware institution. They are at once grateful for being part of the University of Michigan and mindful of the fact that they are not The University of Michigan. This helmet is all but a perfect example of that. They are not trying to be like anyone. It is away to express appreciation for being part of the University while still understanding that it does not make them one in the same.
Go Blue. Whereever you may be.
If they wanted a real identity of their own, they'd stop using maize & blue as their colors and wouldn't use a helmet that is very clearly just a modification of Michigan's helmet (also see Minnesota-Duluth and Wisconsin-White Water)
Which is weird, since UM-Dearborn is doing the exact opposite. Recently they just approved a plan to change their sports team names from Wolves to Wolverines
They need to work on their MS Paint skills. I can still see the other stripe.
not enough flames, go back to the old design
