U.S. Men's National Team vs. Jamaica
World Cup Qualifying
Columbus Crew Stadium; Columbus, Ohio
Tonight @ 8 p.m. ET
The match will be brodcast live on ESPN2, ESPN3, and Galavision. Fans can also follow the match live on ussoccer.com's MatchTracker and via Twitter @ussoccer.
The USA (1-1-1, 4 points) dropped into a tie for second place with Guatemala in Group A following Friday’s 2-1 loss to Jamaica (2-0-1, 7 points) at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. Despite the USA’s early lead thanks to Clint Dempsey’s goal 35 seconds into the match (a U.S. record for the fastest goal in qualifying), Jamaica tallied back-to-back goals off free kicks and posted its first win in history against the United States.Tuesday marks the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Shanskville, Penn. In recognition of playing on 9/11, U.S. Soccer will honor the occasion by distributing American flags to all those in attendance, and will recognize three first responders from the New York City Fire Department: Captain Joseph Brosi, Battalion Chief Wayman Iriarte, and Lieutenant Jason Hickey. All three are members of the FDNY Soccer Club.
The U.S. Men’s National Team was the first U.S. team in any sport to play post-9/11 when it defeated Jamaica 2-1 on Oct. 7, 2001, in a World Cup qualifier in Foxborough, Mass. With that win, the USA advanced to its fourth consecutive World Cup.

We really need to show something tonight.
I am so down on all of our holding midfielders that I can't get excited for anyone tongiht... I guess I hope to see Joe Corona as a late sub, though I'd be afraid that he would get injured from one of Jamaica's armed muggings that the refs seem to let slide.
EDIT- reading that I made it sound like Joe Corona is a holding mid... I am aware that he is not, I hope to see him in the attacking mid role.

It's amazing how much this lineup scares the shit out of me... but replace Edu with Bradley, and I get very excited.
September 11th, 2012 at 3:20 PM ^
Naturally...and Torres for Donovan would make it close to a first choice squad.
Crazy how Bradley is so important to the National Team after so many chastized him as being a product of nepotism.

September 11th, 2012 at 5:10 PM ^
but I might switch Jones for Edu and then put Shea or Williams out wide.
September 11th, 2012 at 3:26 PM ^
September 11th, 2012 at 3:56 PM ^
I would be there tonight. Sadly my manager is a douche. Good luck USA.
September 11th, 2012 at 7:55 PM ^
Wow. Some surprising choices. Zusi and Torres starting on the wings. Williams shielding the back 4, and Altidore on the bench.
September 11th, 2012 at 7:58 PM ^
Klinsy and the boys have got to be feeling the pressure tonight. They really need the W. An L is pretty much unthinkable, as in, my head will explode and I won't be able to think.
No Torres. I just don't trust him to assert himself enough.
Not a fan of Jones either. I actually was coming around to Beckerman until last Friday's game. Ugh. Also not a fan of Edu.
Yeah. I got no one. Could be a tough game.
EDIT: Just saw lineup. Wow. I'm totally ok with Zusi, uncertain about Williams, and downright pissed about Torres. He's had more than enough chances. Let him get his next one in a friendly.

not ready to shut down the WC hopes just yet.

link?
September 11th, 2012 at 8:16 PM ^
I can't believe Shea hasn't gotten the nod from Klinks today. Dude has been the most active player on the field when he has gotten a shot and has given the US a little different look in terms of an offensive attack.
Hopefully first sub in.
September 11th, 2012 at 8:22 PM ^
Shea is still young and seemingly best when he comes on in the 60th minute or so.
On this pitch, I like the Jose Torres pick... he isn't going to have to deal with the godawful field of Jamaica, and h the crowd isn't going to let the ref to allow reckless challenges like in Kingston.
Im feeling a 2-0 win

I find it unfortunate that Jozy Altidore is expected to be our best player and, when he doesn't, people call for him to never play for the US again...
When Terrence Boyd, who was born a mere 14 months later, is given patience and understanding.
I know Altidore has his flaws, but he's 22. He WILL be on the US roster for the next 2 world cups (likely the next 3).
Just sayin, he still deserves time to mature as a player.
September 11th, 2012 at 8:35 PM ^
My issue with Jozy is his work rate. The problem is he came on so strong at the beginning, lighting the world on fire, and then hasn't lived up to that standard. Part of it is we need to be patient with him, but part of it is he has the "Jay Culter Syndrom" where it looks like he just doesn't care at points during the game.
I agree he is gonna be on the team for a while and will develop, plus he is doing sick this year for his club, but until he gets that work rate up on a game in, game out situation, I think he will always take a little flack that is maybe rash.
September 11th, 2012 at 8:36 PM ^
not to mention tonight is a huge game and you would think the US would want his experience on the field
September 11th, 2012 at 8:34 PM ^
we will cash in eventually, virtually no posession at all for JAM
September 11th, 2012 at 8:35 PM ^
it;s coming. can you feel it? a goal is coming shortly
September 11th, 2012 at 8:43 PM ^
What a f*ing hit by Williams! Unlucky!
September 11th, 2012 at 8:43 PM ^
WOW USA is unlucky, hitting the bar 3 times in the first 30 mins. Williams with a beautiful strike that was very unlucky to no go in.
September 11th, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
keep pushing boys!
September 11th, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
Jamaica's best player tonight is the woodwork
September 11th, 2012 at 8:48 PM ^
I was receptive at first but why not just a traditional home white?
September 11th, 2012 at 8:49 PM ^
You don't like the Where's Waldo look?
September 11th, 2012 at 8:50 PM ^
Because they're playing Under The Lights.
September 11th, 2012 at 8:50 PM ^
Actually a fan of the hoops look. I am a Celtic fan however.
September 11th, 2012 at 8:51 PM ^
I like mixing things up every now and then (save UM football), but these are terrible.
September 11th, 2012 at 8:58 PM ^
Guatemala gets 3 points as expected. US now needs 3 points as well tonight. Desperately.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:03 PM ^
Nah. If we draw tonight and win the next 2 games we are into the final round.
A win isnt neccesary, but for morale it is highly reccomended
September 11th, 2012 at 9:08 PM ^
As unpredictable as they have looked in the Klinsman era, I would prefer to avoid do-or-dies in October. Granted, even with a win tonight, they still need wins in October, but a draw tonight leaves no room for error.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:01 PM ^
Can't believe we are going into half without a lead. Jamaica would love to leave the States with a huge point for them.... Gotta start finishing like we're the best team in the group - which we are.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:08 PM ^
I wanted a big lead early so that we could see Joe Corona but I guess we will just have to wait.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:20 PM ^
I think Brek Shea could be a veeeery dangerous sub for us. Jamaica is squarely on teir heels, right where Brek Shea likes em.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:36 PM ^
Here he comes. Hope he gives yet another spark.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:24 PM ^
I need a GIF of Dempsey giving the stink face.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:41 PM ^
^ This. always this.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:41 PM ^
+ all the points for you.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:25 PM ^
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 11th, 2012 at 9:25 PM ^
HERC!!
September 11th, 2012 at 9:26 PM ^
Goal-mez!
Now play should really open up. Hope we stay on top.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:28 PM ^
Need to keep pressing. Goal differential could be huge when all is said and done, and by the way this game has gone, no reason we cannot get 1 or 2 more.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:34 PM ^
Not sure we need to keep pressing. Goal differential may be huge, but Guatemala only won by 1 tonight, and the way our defense gets shaky, I just don't know. A tie really is pretty disastrous tonight given the way the table stands. Of course, if we do get a couple more, great, but Jamaica has changed their game completely, as expected, after the goal.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:38 PM ^
Good point, Jamaica's speed is certainly dangerous and certainly they have more men forward now.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:37 PM ^
Herc Gomez (#9) scored a goal tonight.
Brek Shea is wearing #11.
Just sayin.
September 11th, 2012 at 9:41 PM ^
I joined the Grand Rapids chapter a few months back but not sure how strong the numbers are. None of my friends are interested in soccer and wouldnt want to go to a watch party and sit there by myself.
