The end of "Ohio"?
Okay, I'll be that guy...
Is this the end of "Ohio" and "Beat Ohio"?
I suspect not, at least from the football program officialdom. They've drawn that line; I don't really expect them to back down.
But for common usage among fans? The ones that don't happen to be going to a Brady Hoke luncheon speech that day? What will any fan-on-the-street be thinking, when saying "Beat Ohio!" Will it be, "D'oh! That first-round tourney loss to a 13-seed?"
Is this the trashtalk-equivalent of Appalachian State? How long before Beilein and Brandon get a rematch with The Ohio University Bobcats?

from a buckeye fan i think its just good ol fashion razzing...
i usually refer to u folks as um, but when im having a few cold ones with my michigan pals i will say that school up north in good fun...
btw, congrats on a really good season (sincerely)...
football team beat us and won a bcs game and hoops are tri big ten champs, not a bad turnaround imo...
looking forward to some great games with u folks in the future!!!!
take care all
Both nicknames, "Ohio" and "That School Up North," aren't really insulting when you actually think about it. Ohio State IS in Ohio, and IS the biggest school there; Michigan IS to the north of Columbus.
As you say, it's just old fashioned razzing, and makes the rivalry more fun (without being stupid/infantile about it, like with some other nicknames).

No.
This game won't even matter next year. It might stop temporarily, but it's not going away.
Section 1, so full of himself and his original thoughts. I picture that South Park where the people start driving hybrids and smelling their own farts.
Surely you meant to blame Michael Rosenberg?

... and he didn't mention the "Ohio" wordplay at all, did he?
I think that after four years, Mikey is "All in for Michigan" at this point. Snyder too.
Beat Ohio will never die. It's a part of our lexicon now.
...but I read this blog because it's awesome. As an OSU fan, the "Ohio" thing doesn't bother me at all. But as an OU fan, it's highly irritating (which made yeterday especially sweet :D).
Here's why: The whole "THE Ohio State University" thing started around the same time as some trademark disputes between OSU and OU over the word "Ohio." OU won, and OSU changed up its branding, including starting the "THE" thing. Around the same time, OU students would wear shirts that said "Ohio: THE State University."
Both school want to be the first school that comes to mind when someone says "Ohio" -- Hoke's moronic nickname gives that honor to OSU.
P.S. I have OSU / Gonzaga on TV and an OSU cheerleader just yelled "Go Ohio!"
Hoke's "Ohio" pisses then off and I love it. Tell your Ohio friends in Columbus it aint stopping.
