U of M softball upsets #14 UCLA and #19 Auburn in a double header.
Big win for the ladies today beating UCLA. Any year to beat them is big, but with this young team early in the season could go a long way for them. Down 3-1 early the lady wolverines came back to tie in in the bottom of the 5th 3-3 and took the lead 5-3 in the bottom of the 6th for good. Big win and just nice all around in the comeback.
Wooo! And right now, Michigan has a 2-1 lead over ohio in their one and only game this season. Michigan doesn't get ohio in the B1G season due to idiotic scheduling by the B1G.
solo homerun in the 6th inning for Ohio, We have just screwed Sinnery in all three of his starts this year. Hope we bail him out here and get him the win, he should be 3-0 with the way he has pitched.
In MGoMembership news/homerific proud boyfriend news, megangoblue did a number on a team picked to finish in the top three of the MAC today. Game was called early due to the scoring differential (mercy rule). Her stat line:
4.1IP 5H 3R 2ER 5BB 4SO 25BF
From what I hear, she needs to get the walks down for that to be a great line, but she isn't usually a walk happy pitcher, so it's probably not concerning.
That's a pretty big win for the team. UCLA is always a powerful team with lots of talent. Congrats, let's hope they can do it again against Auburn!
I wish I had seen Auburn on the schedule, I would have made megangoblue write a short preview (she played them last weekend). If anyone is interested, I can probably get her to write a few words before the Temple game. She's pitched and rested against them, so she's seen them up close and in action against her.
I'm guessing M kills them, but if anyone is interested I'll volunteer her services for a paragraph or two.
We're up 1-0 in the 4th, but the Gametracker graphics are switched.
Michigan has brought down two ranked teams in one night, shutting aubie out 4-0.
what a huge weekend the ladies can have, they play Syracuse, and Virginia Saturday, then wrap up the 5 game weekend with Temple Sunday. Could go 5-0 versus all BCS conference talent. And got the hardest two out of the way already thankfully.
Impressive win against Auburn. My super secret inside information says that their pitcher (Jenee Loree) is wicked good based on hitting spots and the amount of spin she can put on the ball.
It makes a lot of sense that M didn't have more than one hit in an inning, but a good thing their sluggers...um...slugged. This hitting performance was a lot better than USF, and probably against tougher competition, Auburn was picked fourth in the SEC, IIRC.
This is the type of early season update I came to mgoblog for. Bill simmons ain't got nothing on us!
Maybe this will give the team a little confidence going forward. And justingoblue I would really appreciate any scouting reports megangoblue cares to offer.
in her name tomorrow, since she only has like a dozen points. If you don't see that, check back here, it'll just depend on how long she gets with it.
I'll see what she has to say, and ask a hitter/fielder or two if they have anything to add. If there are any Temple specific questions you or anyone else has, try to post them here and I'll ask. They're not going to be informed about M softball like a softball fan here will be, but they do know more about a few of M's opponents than just about anyone here.
I'm a little past buzzed at the moment, but trying to look at their schedules, there will only be two more scouting reports she can provide (BGSU: picked as favorites in the MAC, and EMU). Other common opponents are Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Michigan State, all of which play M before megangoblue gets her shot at them. I halfway jokingly expect anyone present to divulge the goods on those teams to megangoblue in exchange for her three scouting reports.
I think an exchange of info is only fair.
I have mentioned this before. There are not many places other than softball where the word is still used. In my experience it is the coaches that keep it alive. When the players are 6 or 8 years old, and you don't want them to cry or get in fights, perhaps the word presents itself naturally. My daughter plays in college, so I have been hearing it for many years now.
I have a problem with calling these upsets, we're always in the Top 10 or close to it and many times in the Top 5.
I don't consider these upsets, This is Michigan, Fergodsakes!
