Free Parking Saturday?
Sorry if this has been posted. I searched and went back a few pages and didn't see anything. Anyways, I remember always hearing how the parking garage on Church and South U was free and open to all for parking on the weekends. I never investigated because I never had a car in AA and always had ample driveway space for guests. Is this true? Is that the same for any other garages in the area (East U by the B-School comes to mind)? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I think you've been misinformed. It's not expensive to park there during the weekends, but you have to take a ticket.

It's actually free on Sundays, but I have no idea about Saturdays.

Honestly, I doubt this is true. And if it is, the school should totally charge people to park there. Even if it's 5 bucks all day, they would make a killing (if they're not doing this already).

Are you from West Michigan and does your last name begin with a D or V or end in -sma or -vries?

Anybody got any coupons for parking!? Coupons!? Anyone!?

Generally, the only free parking is in the neighborhoods, and only then if you park on the street and pretend that you live there.

Give your tickets to me and I will pay for parking. Those tickets aren't worth much
or
Park at shuttle bus location, i.e. Westgate, Briarwood, etc. and take shuttle bus to game.

Good luck getting free parking anywhere even somewhat near the stadium.

how many people are ripping this guy a new one when he is partially correct. That garage in particular is free on Sundays, so no luck for the game unless you are planning on staying the night. I lived across the street last year and would frequently park there on Sat. and then drive it out on Sun. so it was free.

If I remember correctly, its only free if you leave on Sunday. The parking garage is open on Sundays and there is no attendant.

People won't tell you where there secret free parking spot is located

If I remember correctly, the Liberty Square parking garage (excuse the obnoxious link) when entered from the Washington entrance is like a dollar. You put the money in when you drive in.
That's not a terrible walk at all.

It's only free on Sunday. On Saturday you still have to pay (though it's probably one of the cheaper options out there).

I hate to give away my place to park but since unless I get a job in Lansing soon, I won't be in the Ann Arbor area. I have been to about 10 or so games and alway park on Granger between Packard and Ferndon. Free residential area parking. About 20 min walk to the stadium. If you you go past packard you run into the possibility of paying for parking on granger.

...even my students can't get into the b-school garage. However, if you come early enough, look around Burns Park EAST of Packard, no one charges there and there are often spots on the street. Even if you have to park in the Burns Park School lot (which occasionally charges but often is abandoned), it's only a 20-025 minute walk in.

If you don't mind walking a mile or so, there is plenty of free parking on the streets. Parking in the neighborhoods east of South Industrial used to be easy, or west of Seventh and Pauline. If you know your way around town, it is a lot easier to leave using various neighborhood streets, too.
I haven't been there for awhile, but it was like that for the thirty-some years I went to games. Since the stadium still seats close to the same amount of people, I can't imagine the dynamic having changed. If anything, it becomes easier to park as more people decide to create more parking spaces in their yards and make a little bit of money.

Or you could get really drunk and sleep in your car, then whenever you wake up you can drive out for free. Just don't sleep in the driver's seat with the car running, Kevin.

I'd bet, somehow, that the rules will be different for this game. The city of Ann Arbor (which makes a ton of money off football parking) will find a way to make people pay. They'll quietly instruct their parking attendants to stay until 1:00 a.m. or whatever and make people pay for however long they stayed on Saturday.

Free doesn't mean midnight; it's whatever time they let people off that morning. No way they don't at least hit ip the bar crowds
September 8th, 2011 at 11:18 PM ^
Yeah, I've paid there many times after the bar on Saturdays. They must stop staffing the booths at 3 or 4AM.

There are 2 garages up by the medical school that are free all weekend (starting 6pm on Friday - 6am on Monday). Go on the Michigan Parking and Transportation website, click Permit Parking and then the tab on enforcement. Scroll down and you can see the permit time enforcements for most of the garages on campus.

The lot on Ashley and Anne is about a mile walk down Main St. and costs $2 on entry on weekends. Always lots of spots available there if you dont find anything in a neighborhood.

Park at E. WIlliam and Main Street right across from the Beer Depot. Its free let out on Sundays.

Are any of the lots mentioned open before noon? I was hoping to park to be part of the gameday crowd. Otherwise, any suggestions where to park for gameday/game?
September 9th, 2011 at 11:52 AM ^
I know the lot next to the B-school has a special flat fee for game days. I'd just park along the street wherever you can find a space.
