ESPN Basketball Recruiting Update (UM Ranked 14)
Apparently its behind a paywall, but it looks like ESPN has updated their class rankings and UM's 2012 class is #14 in the country ...

with Mitch McGary being the #1 PF to ESPN we could potentially jump into the 10 should he go blue.
P.S. [insert comments about ESPN being the least capable recruiting service etc, etc, etc]

Espn is the least capable recruiting service.

Actually as much as I hate ESPN they seemed to be fairly accurate with basketball(football does suck though). They were way higher on Hardaway than the other two services for example.

Dave Telep is one of the best in bball recruiting business. He used to work for Rivals before moving onto ESPN. I trust ESPN bball recruiting over the other two services.

Remember, basketball teams only get like 3 recruits per year. Getting a top 5 player on top of a top 15 class could vault us very close to the top of the rankings, not just up 4 spots.

That's true. It also means that getting a top 100 kid means much less in basketball than it does in football, though. The Dukes of the basketball world might take two or three top 100 kids off the board, but a Texas-type football program could take 10+. There's more to go around in college basketball.

there are nearly four times as many D1 basketball programs as football programs, so a lot more competition for those Top 100 guys from a numbers standpoint. (Still agree with your overall point though).

You also have to take into account that about half of ESPN's top 100 players are uncommitted. So there will be all kinds of changes to the rankings by the time this is all said and done. Kentucky, for example, doesn't have a single 2012 commitment, but about a dozen of the top 50 are considering them.

They get like 5 a year b/c everyone bolts. 1 and dones.

No, I'm just being obnoxious. The future is bright now and would be blindingly bright with Mr. McGary.

ESPN basketball recruiting has probably been the best basketball recruiting site since Dave Telep went over there from Scout.

....to make a a a BIG splash into the top seventy-five when its all said and done.

FWIW, Stauskas is #2 in Flagrant Fouls' just-updated 2012 Canadian High School Rankings. He's also the only player in the entire top 100 who has made a commitment.

Dylan at UMHoops has said that ESPN does the best job in basketball recruiting.
