TomVH: FWIW on Receivers

Submitted by TomVH on

I know a few people have expressed concern over one of the recruits saying that the Michigan coaches told him they will only be taking one receiver. As of right now I don't believe that's the case. I believe they will take two. That can change with other numbers and other commitments, but as of now I think they would take two.

I think when the coaches came in, they checked out the roster and said "wow, that's a lot of receivers. In fact, I know Borges said something to this effect. Simultaneously, they freaked out about the DB's. Little did they know the type and quality of receivers depth wise didn't match up with what they want.

While your explanation may be accurate, there is another school of thought. There was always a distinction in Lucien's rankings (some were high on him, others quite low). This school of thought suggests that Hoke, who knew Lucien well and offered him at SDSU, thought he was a catch for the Aztecs but not at par for what he was trying to get at Michigan. Because Hoke (likely) scouted Lucien quite well, and because (I assume) he and Borges can look at a roster and tell a mass of Hobbits are less than likely to contribute in the Uruk Hai style offense they're trying to create, I tend to lean towards the second school of thought.
