Braylon on the #1
Edwards said three current receivers have "inquired" about wearing the jersey, though they have not spoken to Edwards directly — Roy Roundtree, Junior Hemingway and Darryl Stonum.

...yet.
The #1 jersey should only go to a guy who can take over and win games. No one on the roster deserves it (yet anyway).
we officially moved Denard to WR, but played him at QB (WR in name only), then we'd have a playmaker worthy of it... right?
If Denard could improve his finesse on deep balls, he could just throw it down field to himself. I think he'd have a fair shot at the #1, in that case.
The #1 jersey belongs to AC
It should be retired
Or given to the WR who spends his first years being lazy and then needs the allure of the #1 jersey to motivate himself.
Give it to someone to light a fire under their ass! Junior has all the tools, and it would be a good reason to retire Desmond's number, at the Notre Dame game
The main problem with all of this is when all of the guys who wore #1 started wearing it, they weren't "worthy" of it yet either. They had shown potential but weren't gamebreakers. Seems to me you give it a guy, like Roundtree, who has shown that potential and use it as motivation to justify the #1 jersey. I'm afraid at this rate no one will wear #1 again.
...is sickening. The guy made a donation but obviously with some kind of stipulation/expectation regarding his jersey number that he now uses to publicly (via the press) lord over the program like he is some kind of Michigan football don.
The number 1 jersey used to be a nice little quirk of the program. Now it's used as a power token by an egotistical alumnus. It is the embodiment of the Michigan Man run amok and an indication of cronyism and nostalgia rotting the program from the core of Schembechler Hall. Things will get worse before they get better.
In the meantime, issue the number to whoever is next in line for a jersey. Truth is, there's loads of history & legacy behind every number at a school like Michigan. In that sense, it's not really special at all.
Michigan should really just give the money back. Then again, maybe Braylon made the check out to "LLoyd Carr's University of Michigan" in which case it would probably be unreturnable.
Tyrone Butterfield. Enough said.
can I neg you twice?
playing it.
the only one who has droppe close to the number that Roundtree has. I'm for AC's UM, not BE's.
So, you support the Michigan program from 1979-82, but not the program from 2001-04? Okay then.
I mean, it was okay for Braylon not to support the 2008-2010 Michigan program, wasn't it?
It's interesting how different all of these guys are that we're talking about.
1: Roundtree- There's nothing physically amazing about him, but he's just somehow always open and has decent speed.
2: Stonum is very athletic and very fast for the deep stuff.
3. Hemingway is really big and strong like more of a Braylon.
Front of me at the airport security line at Metro on Monday.
Who is to say that any of them deserve it?
Are we going to have a #1 on the roster every year now?
I remember when we had stretches where the #1 was nowhere to be seen because we didn't have a kid that embodied the standard that A.C. set.
I'm sure they're great people off of the field, but are any one of these three "good enough" on the field to be honored with the #1?
