1. Offense vs Iowa

starts at 1:00

An Iowa game but not one of those Iowa games. Better performance on offense than the score indicated. JJ only took one shot downfield and missed it by only by about a yard. Felt like Michigan could just get six yards in the A-gap any time they wanted – Iowa's tackles are a bit light. Blake Corum spent the offseason lifting buses. There are like 12 minutes before they actually start talking about the quarterback play! Soft underneath passes are how you approach this Iowa defense if you can run the ball. Zero interceptions against a defense that intercepts the ball a LOT. JJ has been coached to not get hit but has a lot of opportunities to get extra yardage upfield if he just goes for it. Is the goal still “just get the quarterback to week 12”? Donovan Edwards has now scored a rushing touchdown, receiving touchdown, and passing touchdown against Iowa (editor’s pop quiz: who was the last Michigan player to do this against a single team? Hint: it was in one game, not two). If teams are going to keep putting their defensive backs in the parking lot then Luke Schoonmaker is going to keep being the #1 target. Receivers are still fast. Other teams are afraid of them so they don’t get as many targets.

1. Offense vs Maryland

starts at 1:00

There was some First Actual Game clunkiness but the boxscore looks fine! Was that actually the fastest touchdown in Michigan football history? JJ missing some deep shots isn't concerning, more concerning is him breaking the pocket to run around and then run around some more and then run around some more. There was also some poor decision making, he looked like a second year quarterback. So Blake Corum is pretty good. Incredible awareness and elusiveness. Was also able to grind out short yardage which was the only part of his game that was missing. Brian officially calls him the best running back he's ever seen at Michigan. Pass protection was pretty good. Schoonmaker's run blocking has been fantastic and offers NFL-level complexity to the run game. Tight end depth is good enough that they might not actually miss Erick All too much moving forward. Can't run a trick play based off of a play you didn't run.

1. Offense vs UConn

starts at 1:00

Name a random Michigan walk-on QB in the comments! Eight quarterbacks participated in this game, seven of them completed a pass. Lots of Speed in Space in this game because UConn allowed it to happen, the coaches adjusted to the opposing defense which is encouraging. Receivers might need to get used to scramble drills with JJ. Offensive play calling is by committee again. Oluwatimi looks great at center, the rest of the offensive line has stuff to work on. Isaiah Gash may actually be the short yardage back? Otherwise it's Corum. Ronnie Bell knocked the rust off, only target he didn't catch was almost the coolest catch ever.

You know the old saying - if you have seven quarterbacks, you have none.

"This is the point of the podcast where I'm screaming at you that we have to keep this. So we're keeping it."

Happy JJ Szn to all who celebrtate

"You don't want your quarterback to get thundersacked by a Colorado State player."
