at least it's not just us?
Sweet backyard hockey rink set up in Hillsdale.
I thought I had a pretty sweet wiffle ball stadium set up - but now realize it sucked.
Our own Boo Nieves features heavily in a NY Times article from yesterday about the choices American skaters have to make between staying eligible for NCAA hockey vs choosing to go the CHL/OHL route, often by the age of 14 or 15.
There's some typical NCAA-hating by the OHL sources but I think the NCAA actually comes out looking better. There's specific reference to how OHL players play in front of half full arenas while Boo and Michigan get to play in front of a packed out Yost and student section.
Remember kids, just say no to the O
I'm looking at tickets for the Wings vs. Leafs game at the Big House, and am wondering how the row numbering may differ from football games, if at all.
Do they add rows to the front so seats go right up to the glass? The one seating chart I could find has cheaper tickets in the low rows which makes me think it's because there's a fair number of added flatter-angle rows. The chart doesn't include row numbers.
Anyone who went before have any insight? I'm looking at row 40... thinkg that should be high enough and close enough for a good view?
This week's hockey polls are out and a bit surprising (to me at least) is that Ferris leap-frogged us up to #2 in all the polls. Formerly #1 St Cloud lost and tied to #10 Union so we knew there'd be movement but I figured the tie would slide us both up. Apparently the tie at Yost has caused people to take Ferris' gaudy record seriously - which I'd say is a fair thing to do. Polls:
|Team||(First Place Votes)||Record||Points||Last Poll|
|2||Ferris State||(12)||14- 2-3||914||4|
|4||St. Cloud State||( 4)||11- 2-3||855||1|
|5||Providence||( 2)||11- 2-3||834||5|
|Team||Points||(First Place Votes)||Last Poll||Record|
|1||University of Minnesota||503||(28)||1||12-2-2|
|2||Ferris State University||442||(2)||4||14-2-3|
|3||University of Michigan||436||3||10-2-2|
|4||St. Cloud State University||416||(2)||2||11-2-3|
Also of note, Wisconsin is at #14/15 and Ohio State is in the "Others receiving votes" on USCHO - which basically puts them at #26 (of 59 DI teams so take that FWIW)
Arguably one of Michigan's best hockey players has broken a foot while practicing with the U.S. World Jr. team. He will likely miss games against Wisconsin and MSU (Jan 10-11 23-24 respectively). That could be a big blow as he is tied for the points lead. I hope we get him back for the home series against Wisonsin Jan 31.
In the past few days, tickets for the first day of the event have fallen to $ 4.98 from a little under 7 dollars and from just under $ 5 to three dollars. It would be nice if Michigan fans buy those up so we have 41,000 screaming maize and blue in the stands next week.
